The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Position Summary

The Office of Institutional Equity (OIE) serves as a centralized resource for addressing all reports of discrimination and discriminatory harassment, including reports that involve alleged violations of Title VI and Title VII, reports that involve alleged violations of Title IX and the University's Gender-Based Misconduct Policy, as well as reports that relate to violations of the Protection of Minors Policy. The Office is responsible for reviewing, investigating, and managing all incidents from inception through resolution whether the Respondent is a student, faculty, staff member, or affiliate.

The Title IX Office is responsible for monitoring the University's policies and procedures for resolving sexual and gender-based misconduct, harassment, and other complaints under Title IX. The Title IX Coordinator works to ensure a safe, welcoming, and harassment free-environment for all members - students, faculty, and staff - of the Columbia community.

To assist in meeting this objective, we are seeking a Manager of Title IX Division who will work collaboratively, as well as independently, and be required to use sound judgment when handling sensitive information. They will also engage in frequent interactions with diverse groups of employees, students, and faculty. Duties include managing events and meetings, overseeing the calendar of the Title IX Coordinator conducting research and creating briefings and reports for senior University administrators, and managing various ongoing and ad hoc projects and initiatives across the University. The Manager will coordinate Title IX accommodations for all pregnant students and facilitate accommodations beyond the scope for the Case Management Division.

The Manager of the Title IX Division reports to the Director of Operations.

Responsibilities

Case Management



  • Manages all accommodations for pregnant and newly parenting students under Title IX.
  • Coordinates academic, housing, and other accommodations to ensure that pregnant and newly parenting students across the University receive the full accommodations needed to fully participate in their education.
  • Maintain accurate and thorough files and reports using data/case management software, including tracking, updating, and coordinating responses with the Title IX Coordinator regarding incident reports and cases.
  • Serves as a liaison between the Title IX Coordinator, Senior Directors of Investigations, and Director of Case Management for all Faculty, Staff, and Student matters directly related to Title IX.
  • Coordinates the logistics, including scheduling and communication in relation to alternative resolutions with the Title IX Coordinator, including but not limited to policy education.


Training



  • Plans, implements, and coordinates in-person training for more than 13,000 students across Columbia's campuses and bi-annual surveys of the student body.
  • Assist in the creation of training materials and updating existing materials to ensure that they are fresh, engaging, up to date, and meet accessibility guidelines..
  • Organize all Title IX Division trainings, events, and outreach, including the annual "One Love" training, teaching over 500 students facilitated by 25 volunteers about healthy and unhealthy relations and how to safely intervene when learning about dating and domestic violence in our community.


Operations



  • Work with the Title IX Coordinator to develop the workshops, track completion, and follow through to ensure compliance with Title IX laws, including the New York State's "Enough is Enough" law.
  • Acts as a liaison to a broad range of constituents, including students, faculty, staff, and senior leaders, on behalf of the Title IX Coordinator.


Administrative



  • Manages day-to-day operations for Title IX Coordinator using sound judgment in determining priorities and exercising discretion. Provides organizational and logistical support and prepares appropriate meeting materials.
  • In coordination with the Administrative Coordinator, manage and respond to all Title IX inquiries.
  • Supports the administrative functions of Title IX hearings, including being present and supporting the Administrative Coordinator in managing technology for hearings.
  • Organizes and coordinates the Appellate Panel process in cases involving students several times a year, including scheduling hearings, gathering case materials, taking notes, and drafting decisions on behalf of the Appellate Deans.
  • Additional duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications



  • Bachelor's degree and/or its equivalent required. 3-5 years of administrative and/or programmatic experience required.
  • Superior verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong computer skills and must have advanced Microsoft Office, including proficient knowledge of Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
  • Confidentiality and discretion.
  • Ability to work with confidential information in a discreet and professional manner.
  • Must be self-directed with effective interpersonal and problem-solving skills. Must have strong analytical and project management skills.
  • Ability to prioritize and respond to requests in a timely and knowledgeable manner.
  • Requires flexibility and adaptability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills are critical.
  • Proven experience in working collaboratively and effectively with varied constituencies across a large organization.
  • Demonstrated skill in tracking and maintaining data and developing reports, including a strong working knowledge of tools for managing and presenting data.
  • Work with a sense of urgency and have a drive for results and strong organizational skills. Ability to retrieve and compile information from multiple sources to complete assignments.
  • Tact and good judgment in confidential situations and proven experience interacting with senior management.


Preferred Qualifications




  • Prior experience supporting an executive-level office or position in a higher education setting is strongly preferred.
