The Commissioning Instrumentation Technician plays a key role in bridging these objectives by supporting the successful commissioning of complex instrumentation and automation systems across innovative and sustainability-focused projects. This role supports our purpose of delivering a more sustainable world by ensuring instrumentation and control systems are tested, calibrated, and operationalized to meet both traditional and future-focused energy demands. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Participate in the safe and effective energization and commissioning of instrumentation, automation, and analyzer equipment, ensuring adherence to engineering design and industry best practices.
- Conduct I/O verification and loop checks on a wide range of instruments, documenting all results digitally to support data-driven project execution.
- Perform configuration, calibration, diagnostics, and troubleshooting of pneumatic, hydraulic, electronic, analog, and digital instruments, ensuring optimal performance aligned with operational specifications.
- Identify and report deviations from engineering documents and contribute to the resolution of technical issues through collaboration with multidisciplinary teams.
- Execute commissioning activities in alignment with established testing protocols, ensuring the availability and correct use of required tools, criteria, and documentation.
- Generate and manage instrument-related Requests for Information (RFIs) as needed to support technical clarification and commissioning progress.
- Maintain a strong focus on safety by actively participating in risk assessments, applying lockout/tagout (LOTO) and lock/unlock procedures (LUN), and promoting safe work practices across all commissioning phases.
- Apply completions software to track, record, and report progress in real-time, contributing to project visibility and digital transformation efforts.

QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLSET Essential Qualifications and Skills
- Verifiable experience in the commissioning, maintenance, or installation of industrial process instrumentation, or completion of recognized instrumentation technology coursework combined with relevant hands-on experience.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting engineering documentation including loop diagrams, location plans, datasheets, schematics, single-line diagrams (SLDs), piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), and mechanical drawings.
- Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and resolve issues across a wide range of devices measuring temperature, pressure, flow, and level in industrial environments.
- Working knowledge of calibration techniques and the use of related test equipment.
- Proficient in the use of digital tools and software to complete commissioning tasks and documentation accurately and efficiently.
- Knowledge of electrical safety procedures and commissioning best practices, including first-time energization and permit-to-work systems.
- Strong collaboration and communication skills with the ability to work in diverse teams and across multidisciplinary functions.
- Ability to work independently, follow written procedures, and manage commissioning scope with minimal supervision.
Preferred Additional Skills
- Familiarity with wireless instrumentation and process control networks.
- Understanding of motor control systems, protective relays, motor schematics, and electrical control logic.
- Experience working with pneumatic and vacuum systems, including tubing, piping, and leak testing.
- Ability to modify and repair existing conduit installations using appropriate tools and materials.
- Competency in configuring instruments using HART or network interface tools.
- Capable of recording results in digital format using tablets or computers and contributing to system completions databases.
- Certification such as NCCER Certified Plus is advantageous.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS This role requires the ability to perform physical activities that include climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, and performing repetitive motions.
