About the Job

St. Anthony Falls Laboratory (SAFL) is currently seeking a post-graduate research assistant for a stormwater research group to work on projects related to capture and release of pollutants from stormwater ponds, biofiltration media, and iron enhanced sand filters. This is a temporary civil service position.

Job Duties:

30%-Activities for indoor laboratory experiments
-experiment setup and operation (~10%),
-sample analysis by wet chemistry (~10%),
-acid washing sample and analysis vials and containers (~10%)

10%-Activities for outdoor field experiments
-travel to field sites, equipment setup, deploying, maintaining, and retrieving

60%-Activities for both laboratory and field experiments
-include sample collection (~10%),
-parameter measurement (~10%),
-data collection and recording (~10%),
-cleanup (~10%),
-protocol development and execution (~10%),
-and other duties necessary to complete the research (~10%).

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:
* Bachelor's degree with a science and/or engineering background including water
resources, environmental, chemistry, etc. OR a combination of education and relevant work experience to equal at least four years

Preferred Qualifications:
* Research or Water Chemistry Analysis experience will be given special consideration.

The St. Anthony Falls Laboratory (SAFL) is an interdisciplinary fluid mechanics research lab and educational facility under the College of Science and Engineering at the University of Minnesota.

We are engineers and scientists who collaborate across disciplines to solve fluids-related problems in the Earth-surface environment. Our vision encompasses both science and practice, beginning with basic research and moving through application, decision-making, and management.

Located on Hennepin Island in the Mississippi River in the heart of Minneapolis, SAFL serves as a resource for departments across the Twin Cities campus, the statewide University system, and the broader research community. We partner with local, state and federal agencies; private consulting firms; businesses of many kinds; technical associations; and other educational institutions to expand knowledge and solve problems.

Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: $20.87-$22.50; depending on education/qualifications/experience

Time Appointment: 75%-100% Appointment
