Position Description
Performs specialized Post Doctoral work in the planning, conducting and/or supervision of original research at TTUHSC. Responsible for participating in a research project associated with Ph.D studies and the interpretation of the results of publication. Work is performed under supervision of graduate faculty members with evaluation based on accomplishment of assigned objectives and overall effectiveness of project. May supervise research and student assistants.

Major/Essential Functions
  • Design & execution of experiments (sperm isolation, protein extraction, Western blot analysis, recombinant protein expression, immunofluorescence analysis, cell culture, seeding assays).
  • Perform rat injections, tattooing, handling, breeding, dissection and provide assistance with mouse breeding colonies.
  • Maintain record of experiments in laboratory notebook including detailed methodology, calculations, graphing of data, images of autorads, interpretation of data, and indications of mistakes or unexpected outcomes.
  • Supervise lab support activities (example: dishwashing, ordering, cleaning, autoclaving solutions, stuffing pipette tip boxes) by student assistants and provide these services when student assistants are absent.
  • Help maintain essential laboratory equipment (check -80 and -20 freezer temperatures) and records animal use and breeding colony records, material safety data sheets, biohazardous materials, and invoices from orders.
  • Assist P.I. and students in misc. tasks (examples: training new students, postdocs and other investigators in various scientific procedures; preparation of talks, grants and publications).
  • Assist P.I. in establishing budget and monitoring spending.


Required Qualifications
Education: PhD or equivalent doctorate (e.g., D.Sc., M.D.) in area of project specialization.
Experience: Knowledge of modern research practices, the methods, resources, and standards thereof. Ability to organize work effectively, conceptualize and prioritize objectives and exercise independent judgment based on an understanding of organizational policies and activities. Ability to integrate resources, policies, and information for the determination of procedures, solutions and other outcomes. Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships with other employees and the public. Ability to plan and allocate the workload of employees, providing direct training and supervision as needed
