Position Description
This Position is Open to Current TTUHSC School of Medicine Employees Only
The Director of Finance manages and directs the organization's financial operations, ensuring accuracy in financial reporting, budgeting, and compliance with regulatory requirements. This individual oversees key financial processes, including but not limited to budget development, state allocations, accounts payable/receivable, and financial reporting. The Director will implement policies and procedures to organize tasks and set departmental priorities. They will serve as liaisons with university personnel and the community at large, working under general supervision with broad latitude for initiative and independent judgment.

Major/Essential Functions
  • Lead the budgeting process, including forecasting, financial planning, and variance analysis. Work with department leads/chairs to develop and maintain realistic budgets that align with the organization's economic strategy.
  • Standardize and ensure the timely and accurate preparation of financial reports, including profit and loss (P&L) statements, expense reports, financial performance dashboards, year-end reporting distributed to Accounting Services, and state reporting.
  • Oversee the proper allocation and utilization of state and institutional funds. Ensure compliance with state funding guidelines and manage reconciliation of fund distributions.
  • Manage invoicing, payments, and financial transactions to ensure timely processing and accurate tracking of incoming and outgoing funds.
  • Maintain strong financial controls to ensure adherence to regulatory requirements and institutional policies. Work closely with auditors and compliance teams to prevent financial risks.
  • Oversee the overall finance team and ensure continuity and staff adherence to institutional policies.
  • Assists with SOM accounting oversight for Dean's Office funds and prepares regular reports for leadership.
  • Manage hospital contract funding and distribution to SOM accounts.
  • Manage monthly distribution of patient-related revenue deposited into the Trust Fund for all SOM campuses.
  • Effectively communicate with co-workers and appropriate levels of management regarding assigned functions.
  • Establish effective working relationships with departmental personnel for assigned functions.


Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in related area required plus five years progressively responsible management experience. Additional education may substitute for experience on a year for year basis.
