The position is the technical leader for the Radiation Producing Machine Program and is responsible for the X-ray Systems Quality Control and Quality Assurance Program, primarily in the 48x Building, but enterprise-wide. The incumbent leads the program by establishing procedures and policies for the QA program to ensure regulatory and Joint Commission compliance items are met, and to assure exposures to radiation are as low as possible (ALARA). This person must possess a high level of knowledge and technical expertise in the area of imaging systems quality assurance for the numerous complex pieces of equipment located throughout the Health System. The incumbent will carryout reviews and audits of QA functions, provide analyses of findings and work with other professionals throughout the Health System, including diagnostic medical physicist and physicians to improve processes.

This individual will be expected to review the actions of various departments throughout the Health System with respect to X-ray radiation safety and act accordingly to resolve issues that arise. This individual will provide recommendations and information concerning compliance with Health System radiation safety policies and procedures, as well as State and Federal regulations based on established best practices. The incumbent oversees equipment testing procedures and advises technologists and x-ray supervisors and operators on techniques specific to testing of equipment. This individual will be expected to review the data collected from various radiologic exams and look for trends and outliers and assure appropriate actions are taken to address identified cases. This position assists in special projects for the department, and some routine Health Physics tasks. This position supports the Health Physics goal of fostering communication/coordination within the Health System community.

Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position

  • Bachelor's degree in medical or health physics or related field, and/or equivalent education and experience.
  • Experience as a Health Physicist or experience performing QAs on medical imaging equipment.
  • Knowledge of X-ray equipment+QA methods.
  • Health physics and health physics applications including the elements of a radiation safety program and ALARA principles.
  • Knowledge of federal, state and Joint Commission regulatory requirements, including knowledge of CCR Title 17 requirements regarding radiation producing machines and good practices.
  • Knowledge of health physics instrument theory, operation and counting statistics.
  • Knowledge of fluoroscopic and radiographic equipment and software/firmware.
  • Skills to use various pieces of test equipment and devise tests to measure imaging equipment functions.
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills to clearly and effectively interact, convey and present information to diverse group of individuals.
  • Problem-solving skills to independently recognize, define and solve a problem by creating and implementing viable solutions and following through to ensure the problem is resolved to the satisfaction of all parties.
  • Advanced skills to independently coordinate a variety of tasks and functions, organize, prioritize and manage projects; to work under pressure and strict deadlines, realigning priorities as necessary.
  • Skills to analyze options and solve problems independently while utilizing available scientific and professional resources to efficiently complete assigned projects.
  • Knowledge of and experience using Word, Excel, Power Point.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 3 or more year experience working as a Medical Health Physicist and/or 3 or more year experience performing QAs on medical imaging equipment.
  • Advanced knowledge of X-ray equipment+QA, health physics and health physics applications including the elements of a radiation safety program and ALARA principles.
  • Developed skills in x-ray systems including CT, fluoroscopy and radiography and the associated radiation safety and QA processes, including utilization of appropriate scientific equipment.
  • In-depth knowledge of fluoroscopic and radiographic equipment and associated algorithms and software/firmware.
  • Advanced skills to coach, instruct, or train personnel in regards to the technical functions of utilizing imaging equipment.
