Job Summary:

  • The Senior Director of Strategic Process Optimization & Value Delivery requires a visionary mindset to drive optimization and transformation across GSK's clinical operations. This senior leadership role collaborates across GCO and the broader R&D organization, engaging stakeholders at all levels to ensure acceleration and performance improvement efforts are strategically aligned with Horizon27 ambitions. Centralizing and internalizing these efforts will reduce costs and ensure a consistent narrative across transformational programs.
  • The role requires true systems-thinking, with a unique mix of domain knowledge, process expertise, problem framing skills, product management discipline, and technology acumen to ensure successful delivery.
  • Additionally, this person will provide consultation to existing efforts on the use of advanced re-engineering techniques to improve process performance and product quality with teams across the organization to improve both effectiveness and efficiency.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Analyze strategic opportunities to determine their impact and guide the discovery of innovative solutions. This includes creating prototypes to sell the vision, hypothesis testing, vendor analysis, ideation workshops, development of strategic roadmaps, prioritization frameworks, business cases, defining success metrics, and detailed implementation plans.
  • Develop and communicate a coherent vision that integrates disparate projects, programs, and products to enhance the end-to-end drug development process and accelerate market delivery.
  • Act as the primary point of contact and subject matter expert for implementation decisions regarding technical, data, product, and design direction. Lead change management efforts to drive adoption and satisfaction with solutions. This person will employ a hypothesis-driven, evidence-led approach to value creation.
  • Bring together disparate projects, programs and products into a coherent vision that improves the end-to-end drug development process and accelerates getting medicines to market.
  • This person will develop metrics that provide data for process management and indicators for future improvement opportunities. They will collect data to identify root cause problems and will research, recommend, and approve processes to aid in the translation of business objectives into functional requirements and solution design.
  • Translate the GCO, EAGLE and H27 vision into a coherent and compelling story that drives alignment across the GCO organization.
  • Develop success metrics, prioritization models, outcome-based roadmaps and implementation plans to drive a focus on the right problems, with the right priority and being able to tangibly measure progress towards value realization.
  • Act as GCO POC/SME for implementation decisions for technical, data, product and design direction.
  • Responsible for change management efforts to drive adoption and solution satisfaction.
  • Help reduce GCO and EAGLE reliance on external consultants through mentorship, workshops and other means to increase our ability to be outcome & value focused.

Required Skills:

  • 10 years of domain specific experience, with a focus on leveraging data to improve clinical operations.
  • Expertise in two or more of the following: business process reengineering, business transformation, process optimization, product management, engineering, design, or related field.
  • Experience leveraging Lean and / or Six Sigma methodologies and techniques
  • Experience leading Cross functional teams from early conceptual work through to the final project delivery.

Preferred Skills:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of Systems thinking principles.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
  • Broad knowledge / understanding of the Pharma processes, particularly R&D.
  • Deep understanding of Product Management, Software Engineering and the broader technology landscape.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence directly and indirectly through direct and indirect matrixed organizations and to simplify seemingly disparate and complex concepts to enable cross functional teams to deliver value against complex problem statements.
  • Someone who excels at impactful stakeholder engagement with a demonstrated ability to align business need and expectations across senior and executive teams, chart the course and translate those needs and expectations into tangible outcomes.
