Summary
Responsible for managing aspects of the laboratory's operations and ensuring that the department is meeting quality standards and regulatory requirements. Specializes in the diagnosis and study of diseases by examining tissues, cells, and bodily fluids. Essential Functions Ensures that programs, policies, and procedures are established and implemented to meet customer needs, department standards, and regulatory agency requirements. Determines staffing needs and practices of the department to optimize utilization of personnel. Provides leadership and technical direction to staff in acheivement of laboratory objectives. Manages the operations and services delivery of assigned areas of responsibility for the laboratory. Collaborates with other healthcare providers, such as physicians, nurses, and other laboratory professionals, to ensure that laboratory is providing high-quality services that meet the needs of patients. Ensures patient safety and maintaining a safe environment in the laboratory. Consults with physicians and other healthcare professionals to discuss diagnoses and treatment options. Yes Education Bachelor's Degree Pathology required or Bachelor's Degree Related Field of Study required Can this role accept experience in lieu of a degree? No Licenses and Credentials Cytologist [CT(ASCP)] preferred Histotechnician/Histology Technician [HT(ASCP)] preferred Experience Experience within Anatomic Pathology lab 5-7 years required and Experience working in an academic medical center setting 3-5 years preferred Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Demonstrate efficient knowledge of all equipment operation, tools and procedures specific to assigned area, and effectively troubleshoot issues as they arise. Ability to establish and maintain effective interpersonal professional relationships with physicians, supervisor, direct reports, peers, patients, and their families. Knowledge of laboratory management best practices, quality assurance techniques, and test development and interpretation. Ability to analyze data, draw conclusions and interpret results. Ability to supervise, mentor, train, and evaluate work results of employees.
