Job Summary:
The successful applicant will provide assistance to the facility manager for the day to day operations of the UWCCC Small Animal Imaging & Radiotherapy Facility (SAIRF). The employee will operate and maintain preclinical MRI, microSPECT/CT, microPET/CT, in vivo optical and cell/animal irradiators. Based on specific needs of the research, the incumbent will make recommendations in the experimental design, execute imaging and therapy studies according to the experimental design, and advise/train researchers, scientists and faculty on system operation. They will be responsible for maintaining detailed records of all scans performed, agents injected, and data collected. This person will ensure timely interaction with investigators and researchers. The employee will handle and manipulate small animals to perform drug administration, inoculation, scanning, and tissue/blood collection. The successful candidate will hold local certification for small animal welfare as well as radiation, biological and chemical safety training. The incumbent will assist with animal care and husbandry of laboratory animals. The candidate will assist with the development and maintenance of protocols and standard operating procedures. The employee will work directly with other SAIRF staff, and they will report to the SAIRF Director and Manager. Responsibilities: Provides technical expertise in a research, development, or scientific program. Develops, modifies, adapts, and may design equipment to create unique systems in support of research, development, or instruction, involving, but not limited to, the disciplines of electronics, mechanical/thermal systems, optics, and/or computers.
