JOB SUMMARY

The Controller provides daily oversight of the Finance Team along with taking the lead on the monthly financial statement preparation, annual audit and a variety of requests across the organization. Works closely with and supports the Chief Financial Officer. The financial reporting provided to the Senior Executive Team along with the Laboratory Leadership is critical to running the business.

Essential Functions:

  • Planning, directing, and coordinating all accounting operational functions
  • Managing the accumulation and consolidation of all financial data necessary for an accurate accounting of consolidated business results
  • Coordinating and preparing internal and external financial statements
  • Coordinating activities of external auditors
  • Providing management with information vital to the decision-making process
  • Managing the budget process
  • Assessing current accounting operations, offering recommendations for improvement, and implementing new processes
  • Evaluating accounting and internal control systems
  • Evaluating the effectiveness of accounting software and supporting database, as needed
  • Developing and monitoring business performance metrics
  • Overseeing regulatory reporting, frequently including tax planning and compliance
  • Hiring, training, and retaining skilled accounting staff

Minimum Qualifications

  • Four-year Accounting or Finance degree preferred.
  • CPA license preferred, but not required.
  • A minimum of 10 years accounting experience required.
  • Experience with ERP implementation preferred.
  • Prior customer service experience
  • Prior experience working as a Controller or leading a Finance Team
  • In-depth technical understanding of industry or subject area
  • Excellent customer service skills, to include strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Deep knowledge of concepts and terminology commonly used within the industry
  • Proficient understanding of regulatory requirements, common practices, and trends as they relate to the industry
  • Multi-tasking, prioritization, superior follow up skills and attention to detail are also required for success in this role
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively plan, organize and lead projects
  • Desire to work collaboratively with clients and internal staff teams to achieve common goals.
  • Provide mentorship to staff accountants.
