DESCRIPTION

The Medical Scientist Training Program is one of 50 programs funded by NIH nationally. This position is independently responsible for the management of the Medical Scientist Training Program (MSTP). Serves as key advisor to Program Directors, committees, and faculty members on all programmatic and administrative matters. Academic advising of students. Evaluate and monitor student progress. Responsible for financial matters including budget development and administration, grant and fellowship management, and student support. Direct all admissions, recruitment, outreach, and social activities. Create and update program brochures and oversee updates of websites. Participate in the analysis, development, and implementation of MSTP related programs, policies and procedures and long-term planning.

Applies knowledge about curriculum, requirements and educational activities to coordinate professional health education programs. Coordinates and maintains program operations, which may include teaching and learning activities, program curriculum, learner scheduling, maintaining databases, tracking learner compliance, and program accreditation. Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Seven years of related experience, education/training, OR an Bachelor's degree in related area plus three years of related experience/training.

  • Thorough knowledge of relevant policies and regulatory requirements. Solid knowledge of health professions education program requirements. Thorough knowledge of health professions education industry.

  • Thorough knowledge of administrative analysis and operations research. Demonstrated ability to develop and implement processes and systems. Thorough knowledge of the administrative and operational implications in a program.

  • Demonstrated experience and documented excellence in oral and written communications skills; includes active listening and critical thinking.

  • Strong interpersonal skills. Actively cooperates and supports the work of others. Ability to work productively with anyone regardless of background. Empathetic and aware of impact on others. Strong problem solving skills to assist learners and resolve issues.

  • Excellent organizational skills, analytical, and demonstrated attention to detail. Ability to complete work and meet established deadlines in an accurate and timely manner, and to manage short and competing deadlines.

  • Thorough knowledge of educational software and platforms. Demonstrated ability to analyze and seek solutions to enhance the user experience.

  • Thorough knowledge of data management, documentation methods used in investigating and presenting findings about the program. Skills include statistical analysis of data across databases and systems.

  • Expertise in functioning as a group leader and facilitating group interactions.

  • Demonstrated contract and grant experience.

  • Ability to efficiently supervise and direct workload of a staff assistant.

  • Proven experience in researching and analyzing data and information and providing clear, concise reports.

  • Fiscal accounting and budgeting experience.

  • Proven ability to maintain strict confidentiality. Ability to recognize issues of a sensitivenature and advise academic and staff managers appropriately.

  • Demonstrated ability to develop and establish specialized experiences to align local and NIH program goals and objectives.

  • Demonstrated skill in counseling and advising techniques. Demonstrated experience and skills for effective one-on-one counseling and active listening. Must complete crisis management training class (basic) in order to handle such crisis situations effectively.

  • Substantial demonstrated experience in the administration of a PhD-granting and/or M.D-granting program.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Master's degree in related area preferred.

  • General knowledge of graduate school education in the science disciplines and knowledge of the admissions procedures of various UCSD graduate programs.

  • Demonstrated experience and skills to implement and evaluate graduate level programs in keeping with the Programs' missions and to meet student needs.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS
  • Employment is subject to a criminal background check.

  • Occasional evenings and weekends may be required.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $69,500 - $123,500 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $33.29 - $59.15

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
