Zhang Lab - Junior Specialist

Orofacial Sciences

UC San Francisco

The Zhang Lab is seeking a part-time Junior Specialist to join our team and contribute to a project focused on investigating the roles of the junctional epithelium in the pathogenesis of periodontitis. This project involves studying the antimicrobial molecules produced by the junctional epithelium using animal models, as well as exploring the association between antimicrobial molecules in patients' gingival crevicular fluid and the progression of periodontitis. The candidate will be expected to contribute to these research areas using techniques such as mouse genetics, molecular biology, histology, ELISA, biospecimen handling, and familiarity with Apex software. The candidate is expected to contribute to literature analysis, experimental troubleshooting, and manuscript writing. Additionally, the Junior Specialist will be responsible for general lab duties and maintaining a positive presence within the lab.

Required Qualifications:



  • Must have a baccalaureate degree (or equivalent degree) or at least four years of research experience to be appointed at the Junior rank.
  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Willingness and ability to learn new methods and skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a research team.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, coordinate work tasks with others, and meet multiple deadlines.


Preferred Qualifications:



  • Prior experience in handling biospecimens and purifying cells from biofluids.


See Table 24B for the salary range for this position. A reasonable estimate for this position is $53,100-$56,600.
