FOX Television Stations owns and operates 29 full power broadcast television stations in the U.S. These include stations located in 14 of the top 15 largest designated market areas, or DMAs, and duopolies in 11 DMAs, including the three largest DMAs (New York, Los Angeles and Chicago). Of these stations, 18 are affiliated with the FOX Network. In addition to distributing sports, entertainment and syndicated content, our television stations collectively produce approximately 1,200 hours of local news every week. These stations leverage viewer, distributor and advertiser demand for the FOX Network's national content.
JOB DESCRIPTION
The producer selects stories, assembles them in a rundown, creates graphics, writes and copy edits the stories and coordinates with reporters on reporter presentations. The producer is also responsible for taking the show into the control room and timing it to include commercial breaks. The producer must be enterprising and self-motivated and be able to work independently to develop newscast or assigned production. Requires a thorough understanding of all journalistic standards and broadcast production techniques used to create visual and compelling on-air and online content. Strong writing and communications skills are required. Gather, write, and edit news material and assemble show rundowns. This includes: generating story ideas, writing and/or producing packages for air. Work closely with News Managers, Assignment Desk, news reporters and other newsroom employees on story conception and development and execution of story. Participate in editorial meetings, contributing ideas and discussing show content. Producers will also be assigned to produce or oversee special projects, productions, or live coverage of station-sponsored events. Ability to operate various broadcast production equipment and other communication equipment (intercom systems, microphones, newsroom computer system, video screening computers, cellular telephones, laptop computers or tablet devices, etc.) Primary work environment is in the newsroom and in the field. Occasional time spent in the actual studio. In-house working conditions include studio/control room settings with temperatures ranging from 55 degrees (studio) to 75 degrees. Humidity levels range from 10 to 70+ percent relative humidity. Outside conditions will vary according to Michigan weather. The producer must be able to write news copy clearly, in broadcast style, for on-air, online, and other digital platforms. Must be able to assemble news material in a logical and organized fashion and present finished stories in a professional and engaging manner for viewers/readers to be able to comprehend the latest local, national, and international news. Strong writing and producing skills are essential. Ability to contribute ideas on a daily basis and to recognize what types of stories would make for interesting and compelling television. Pursuant to state and local pay disclosure requirements, the pay rate/range for this role, with final offer amount dependent on education, skills, experience, and location is $65,000.00-70,000.00 annually.
