Qualifications

EDUCATION
High school diploma or equivalent. Medical Assistant Certification.

EXPERIENCE
Minimum two years experience in a hospital or medical office setting; preferably Cardiology.

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION
Certified medical assistant, certified nurse assistant or patient care technician.

SPECIAL WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL DEMAND
Requires extended periods of sitting, walking and standing. Moderate unassisted lifting to 30 lbs.

Position Overview

1. Prepares patient and equipment for all stress testing procedures.
Checks Tech worklist for patient arrival and insures correct physician order and ordering codes are in Epic. Informs front desk staff, nurse or supervisor before patient is brought back for test/procedure if
order or codes are not correct.
Greets and rooms patient and verifies patient with 2 identifiers. Checks current pregnancy status.
Explains testing procedures and reviews entire process with patients.
Fills out appropriate testing protocol worksheets, obtains and records medical history including current medications. Obtains and documents vital signs and reviews medication list in Epic for accuracy.
Enters patient information into GE Case System selecting correct testing protocol
Performs baseline 12 lead EKG, obtains baseline blood pressure and heart rate and enters into stresstest system.
Prepares stress test room, equipment and items needed by nurse during testing.
Assesses patient vital signs including auscultating blood pressures while patients walking on treadmill.
Monitors patient comfort and safety during stress test. Notifies nurse or physician of unsafe situations.
Assists patient and nurse as needed.
When stress test completed, removes electrodes from patient, disconnects patient from monitoring devices, assists patient with dressing, ambulation or ADLs as needed. Escorts patient to waiting room.
Gives patient refreshment if needed.
Cleans and disinfects room and equipment used for procedures in a timely manner.
Initiates emergency procedures and applies BLS algorithms in cases of emergency under the supervision of the nurse or physician.
Complies with established departmental policies and procedures, nuclear safety and environmental and infection control standards.
2. Apply 24 hour Holter monitors and event monitors on patients. Download returned holter monitors into system.
Checks Tech worklist for patient arrival and insures correct physician order and ordering codes are in Epic. Informs front desk staff, nurse or supervisor before patient is brought back for test/procedure if
order or codes are not correct
Greets and rooms patient and verifies patient with 2 identifiers.
Explains holter/event monitor procedure to patient.
Completes holter monitor information sheets, records current medications and verifies in Epic.
Prepares patient's chest and correctly applies electrodes or strips as per guidelines. Shaves chest as needed. Places monitor and starts recordings as per Preventice guidelines.
Instructs patients on wearing of monitor guidelines, directions for use and troubleshooting. Instructs patients of diary use and how to return monitors. Answers all patient questions.
Accurately submits monitor information in Epic and completes tech worklist monitor workflow.
Completes enrollment in Preventice website per guidelines.
Imports and uploads returned monitors according to guidelines.
Completes holter and event monitor logs/tracking forms.
Cleans and disinfects rooms, equipment and monitors after use. Charges returned monitors for future use. Segregates unusable monitors in separate area to be returned to company. Calls company or
extra monitors when needed.
3. Performs PVRs.
Verifies physician order on Tech worklist in Epic. Completes Epic tech worklist process. Informs front desk staff, nurse or supervisor before patient is brought back for test/procedure if order is not correct.
Greets and rooms patient and verifies patient with 2 identifiers. Completes Epic tech worklist workflow.
Explains PVR procedure to patient. Obtains and records medical history including risk factors,
medications and current symptomatology. Enters information into PVR machine.
Applies pressure cuffs to arms, thighs, calves, ankles and toes in proper positions as per PVR guidelines
Uses PVR machine and doppler probe correctly, captures accurate doppler waveform tracings and records them in PVR system as per guidelines.
Cleans gel off patient, removes cuffs and helps them dress if needed Cleans and disinfects rooms , equipment and monitors after use
Imports completed test from PVR machine into our PVR computer program. Notifies physician to read study. Prints out physician confirmed report and has scanned into Epic in final status and messages
results to ordering physician.
Completes PVR tracking log.
4. Performs administrative and other duties as assigned

Completes pre-testing Covid checks to ensure patients have Covid test order, are scheduled for the Covid test and have completed test before exercise stress testing procedures. Documents in note on
tech work list.
Completes pharmacologic stress test medication and seizure review checks in Epic and documents in note on tech worklist
Orders, sorts and stores supplies for offices. Rotates and restocks testing and procedure rooms as needed.
Orders, sorts and stores supplies following established guidelines.
Cleans all rooms and equipment and notifies supervisor of necessary repairs or maintenance needed.
Monitors BH CS Med Tech pool in Epic for messages and completes patient call backs in timely manner
Checks Epic schedules and organizes/optimizes patient flow.
Orients and trains newly employed staff to this role and all departmental policies and procedures.
Monitors event and holter monitor logs for returned monitors, short scans and that reports are in Epic.
Escalates issues outside of scope of practice to nurse in office or supervisor without delay.
Keeps current with hospital assigned Learning Management System modules
Willingly performs other duties as required or assigned.
Travels to various offices as needed.
Maintains BLS certification
Willingly adds patients to daily schedules as needed
