Position Overview


Primary Purpose of the Position
The primary purpose of the position is to teach primarily in the areas of Music History/Musicology, Music Education, and General Education Courses, as determined by departmental needs. The position will also advise music majors and participate in university/departmental service and scholarly activities.

The Department of Music offers the Bachelor of Arts in Music degree, which prepares students for a variety of careers. Students pursue the study of music at the collegiate level and may combine the study of music with an outside field. A double major in the arts, humanities, social sciences and natural sciences is possible. The music major may include such diverse areas a cultural musicology, cognitive studies of music, and advanced technology for music. An audition is required as part of the application for admission.

Department Required Skills
The Department of Music invites internal applications for Visiting Assistant Professor in the College of Arts, Sciences, and Education with a start date of August 2025. The department seeks exceptional candidates with a strong commitment to undergraduate teaching excellence, advising, mentoring undergraduate research, service to the University, the community, and the music discipline.

Candidates should possess a master's or doctorate in music from a regionally accredited university by the time of appointment. They must also have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and a commitment to a liberal arts education in a diverse educational environment.
Preferred Years Experience, Skills, Training, Education

  • Doctorate in music from a regionally accredited university.
  • Three (3) years of relevant, college-level teaching experience.
  • Preference for candidates with teaching expertise in Music History/Musicology.
  • Preference for candidates with a strong background in Music Education.
  • Preference for candidates with North Carolina Teacher Certification in Music.
