Overview

The Lidar Technician supports the processing and quality control of aerial lidar data for a variety of environmental, infrastructure, and research projects. The Lidar Technician will assist with point cloud classification and data validation tasks. This is a hands-on technical role which requires precision, attention to detail, critical thinking, and the ability to follow complex workflows in a fast-paced production environment.

    Work performed at NV5 Achorage, AK office
  • Travel < 10% of the time

Responsibilities

  • Classify lidar point cloud data using established workflows and industry-standard software
  • Assist with visual quality control, point density analysis, and spatial accuracy assessment
  • Follow project specifications, metadata standards, and organizational conventions
  • Document issues and anomalies in support of quality assurance reporting and process improvement
  • Communicate effectively with team members and project managers regarding progress and challenges


Qualifications

Competencies & Skills:

  • Basic understanding of lidar data structure, acquisition methods, and processing principles
  • Familiarity with GIS or CADD environments
  • Knowledge of spatial reference systems, including coordinate systems, projections, and datums
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy and quality
  • Proficiency with file management and data handling for large datasets
  • Ability to follow detailed operating procedures and project specifications
  • Comfortable working independently and collaboratively with a team
  • Good communication skills for reporting project progress and identifying problems

Requirements:

  • Proficiency in MS Office
  • Bachelor's degree, or equivalent experience
  • Knowledge and skills: GIS or CADD proficiency (ArcGIS, QGIS, Civil 3D)

Experience/Skills Preferred (in addition to requirements):

  • Knowledge and skills: Terrasolid, LAStools
  • Remote sensing experience using lidar, photogrammetry, or SAR
  • Familiarity with the USGS Lidar Base Specification or ASPRS Accuracy Standards for Digital Geospatial Data
