Small Tools Mechanic

Purpose
Repairs and maintains small engine related equipment, both gas and diesel. Maintains equipment inventory and equipment maintenance records. Serves as a lead person on a shop maintenance crew when needed.

Focus & Scope
Essential duties and responsibilities, i.e. those which are basic, necessary, and an integral part of the job, are indicated below:
  1. Responsible for maintenance and repair of small engines, both gas and diesel, including basic hydraulic and electrical equipment.
  2. Assists in the troubleshooting and repair of customer's equipment while they are in the yard.
  3. Assists in loading and unloading of equipment for customers.
  4. Ability to operate all small tools and equipment used in construction related application.
  5. Performs preventative maintenance work on all small equipment.
  6. Maintains inventory records on repairs made, parts ordered, and parts inventory.
  7. Acts as a lead person in Small Tools shop, and coordinates work of other crew members, assuring completion of necessary tasks.
  8. Keeps vehicle records.
  9. Performs other duties as required.

Gathers feedback and continuously makes improvements to work processes, practices, and equipment.

Role Qualifications and Requirements

Education
  • High school diploma or equivalent
Experience & Industry Expertise:
  • Minimum of two years' experience in the operation, repair, and maintenance of small equipment, both diesel and gasoline type engines and hydraulic equipment, to include (2) years' experience in the operation, and maintenance of equipment.
  • Previous work experience at an equipment rental company a plus.
Specific Job Requirements:
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug, alcohol, and background investigation.
  • Valid Driver's License.
  • Current on all company required safety training.
  • Ability to preserve confidential and proprietary information and successfully avoid conflicts-of-interest.
  • Must be willing to work overtime, weekends, and holidays, as required.
  • Knowledge of construction equipment and tools such as Service truck; including skid steer tractors, mini excavators, air compressors, generators under 25kw, pneumatic tools, chain saw, cut off saw, water pumps, vibratory compactors, electronic motors, light towers, message boards, utility trailers, vacuum trailers, miscellaneous hand and power tools for construction use.
  • Mechanical aptitude and strong ability to maintain construction tools.
  • Knowledge of Standard Operating Policies and Procedures.
  • Ability to consistently appear for work on time.
  • Thorough knowledge of small tools, to include hydraulics, and small engine equipment, both gas and diesel.
  • Working knowledge of safety practices and procedures while making mechanical repairs.
  • Working knowledge of automated Foley Grinding Equipment.
  • Ability to troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair equipment with accuracy and speed, ability to create effective working relationships with employees; ability to communicate both verbally and in writing.
