Job Description

The Electrochemistry Research Laboratory of Dr. Mohammad Rafiee in the School of Science and Engineering (Division of Energy, Matter and Systems) at the University of Missouri-Kansas City is seeking two full-time postdoctoral researchers with a strong background in organic and organometallic chemistry, along with experience in electrochemistry and materials synthesis.

One position will focus on Ni-catalyzed electrochemical coupling of aryl halides. The other will focus on the synthesis of functional carbon materials for electrocatalytic reactions.

Responsibilities include conducting literature reviews, performing laboratory experiments, characterizing synthesized materials (organic compounds or solid-state materials), analyzing data, drafting reports and manuscripts, and contributing to grant proposal writing.

This is a 12-month, full-time, benefit eligible academic position. The initial appointment is for one year, with the possibility of renewal for a second year based on performance and funding availability.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

Ph.D. in chemistry or chemical engineering and have a record of publications in the relevant fields.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in electrochemical characterization, materials synthesis and organic synthesis, and electrochemical devices (including potentiostat and electrolysis cells)

Familiar with SEM, TEM, XPS, XRD, NMR, FTIR, and other materials and organic compounds characterization techniques.

Ability to meet project deadlines.

Ability to design and conduct advanced experiments.

Anticipated Hiring Range

Salary is determined by a variety of factors, including but not limited to, the individual's particular combination of education, skills, and experience, as well as organizational requirements.
