The Reading Interventionist is responsible for supporting student achievement in the area of literacy development, specifically by providing intensive support to students who are struggling academically. This position is also responsible for monitoring, reporting, and communicating student progress and performance, as well as supporting the Reading Specialist in managing our day-time tutoring program.

Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor's Degree; Master's Degree in Education preferred.
Certificates & Licenses: Valid Virginia Department of Education license required, or
eligibility to obtain one.
Endorsements: Reading Specialist endorsement is required.

Experience:



  • Minimum of 3 years of successful teaching experience.
  • Knowledge of effective instructional practices in education for all learners.
  • Knowledge of, and commitment to, implementing the Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) or similar systems of student support.
  • Knowledge and experience administering diagnostic and progress monitoring assessments to target specific skills and concepts.
  • Demonstrate leadership, organizational skills, communication skills, and the ability to work effectively with others.
  • Experience with research-proven interventions focused specifically on individual student needs.
  • Experience with progress monitoring, data analysis, and documentation of student progress in order to inform instruction.
  • Ability to reflect on instruction and student progress in order to plan for instructional adjustments.
  • Maintain collegial working relationships and strong interpersonal skills with all stakeholders.



Essential Job Functions

Provides high quality literacy instruction to individual students and small groups.
Attends the appropriate trainings to improve knowledge and skills.

* Uses data to provide instruction to students and to bring their skills to grade-level.

* Collaborates with teachers, administration, and families to help identify best practices for individual and small groups of students.

* Uses identified research-based interventions focuses specifically on individual student needs. * Maintains data-based documentation of continuous monitoring of student performance and progress.

* Provides data to school teams and participates in decisions about student progress.

* Communicates with teachers, administration, and families regarding student progress.

* Assists with identifying students for placement in intervention groups.

* Participates in meetings with teachers, administration, and families to discuss student placement and progress.

* Provides diagnostic assessments for students as needed.

* Provides input for program development.

* Supports implementation of assessment tools and data management systems.

* Provides staff development opportunities.

* Performs other related duties as assigned
