The salary range for this position is $179,200 -$231,000. Position description

The Department of Surgical and Radiological Sciences in the School of Veterinary Medicine at UC Davis seeks candidates for a tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor in the field of Anesthesiology.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Creative Scholarship: The development of a creative, focused and productive basic and/or clinically oriented research program is a fundamental and indispensable requirement of the position, including publication of results in professional/scientific journals. Individual will provide leadership in directing research projects of veterinary students, residents and/or graduate students.

Clinical: The position has a 50% clinical effort assignment to the Anesthesiology Service of the Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital (VMTH), including night and weekend coverage, shared with other anesthesiologists and 6 anesthesia residents. The individual will be responsible for directing, instructing and supervising veterinary students, house officers and technicians; providing health care and service to patients; and advising and consulting with referring veterinarians and clients.

Teaching: The primary teaching responsibility will be direct daily supervision and instruction of senior students and house officers rotating through the Anesthesiology and Community Surgery services. Other responsibilities will include: 1) participation in lectures and/or laboratories in the DVM professional curriculum; and 2) participation in all aspects of the didactic and graduate clinical (resident) training program of the VMTH.

Professional Competence: Advance the discipline within the VMTH, as well as locally and nationally through participation and leadership in providing high-quality patient care in the hospital environment. Expected to establish a reputation for excellence locally, regionally and nationally. Must demonstrate clinical competence and be recognized for accomplishment in a focused area of clinical practice. ACVAA or ECVAA certification and maintenance of certification required for appointment at or promotion to the Associate Professor rank.

Service: University and public service through committee work, participation in professional organizations, continuing education and other appropriate means is required.

Must be eligible for veterinary medical licensing in the State of California (California Business and Professions Code Section 4846-4857). Individuals must obtain a full CA license CA Business and Professions Code Section 4846 or a University license CA Business and Professions Code Section 4848.1 prior to beginning clinical duties.

Qualifications
Basic qualifications (required at time of application)

Veterinarian with advanced training in anesthesiology.

Completion of an American College of Veterinary Anesthesia and Analgesia (ACVAA) or European College of Veterinary Anesthesia and Analgesia (ECVAA) - approved residency by date of appointment is required; board certification is preferred.

Board certification will be required for appointment at or promotion to the Associate rank.

Clinical experience and competence in veterinary anesthesiology.

Demonstrated aptitude/experience in teaching.

Documented record of creative scholarship or potential to develop and lead a research program in anesthesiology.

Additional qualifications (required at time of start)

Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills and a demonstrated ability to work with others in a collegial team environment.

Must be eligible for veterinary medical licensing in the State of California (California Business and Professions Code Section 4846-4857). Individuals must obtain a full CA license CA Business and Professions Code Section 4846 or a University license CA Business and Professions Code Section 4848.1 prior to beginning clinical duties.

Preferred qualifications (other preferred, but not required, qualifications for the position)

A PhD or equivalent, or advanced training in research (e.g. postdoctoral and fellowship) is preferred.

Board certification is preferred.
