Job Description:

Job Summary
  • Assists in producing, printing, and distributing various large and small technical documents with some supervision.
  • This Associate Technical Writer will join the Regulatory Programs & Compliance Team and will play a critical role in ensuring timely and accurate delivery of documents and supporting materials across several major initiatives. With many ongoing operational updates and initiatives, this role will help support updates to manuals, checklists, and online resources, while maintaining regulator compliance. This role will work collaboratively with Subject Matter Experts, Quality Assurance, and training Teams to align on technical writing needs. This role will have the opportunity to learn and grow in their expertise each day and help bring Southwest into our exciting next chapter!

Responsibilities
  • Quickly and accurately edit technical documents within established timeframes in accordance with style guides
  • Draft original content and work with existing content to improve readability, including working with content management systems and structured authoring tools
  • Regularly revise technical material with strict adherence to the established workflow
  • Publish electronic and paper manual updates and distribute revisions Companywide
  • Develop new forms
  • Work with graphic programs to optimize images in various formats
  • Prioritize multiple projects under tight deadlines
  • Research internal and external resources to help resolve conflicting information
  • Communicate with Leaders, Co-workers, and Customers respectfully and professionally
  • May perform other job duties as directed by Employee's Leaders
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of Business Management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, human resources modeling, leadership technique, production methods, and coordination of people and resources
  • Knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures and systems, such as word processing, managing files and records, stenography, and transcription, designing forms, and other office procedures and terminology
  • Knowledge of circuit boards, processors, chips, electronic equipment, and computer hardware and software, including applications and programming
  • Skilled in writing, editing, and proofreading
  • Skilled in collecting, organizing, visualizing, and assimilating data, including turning raw data into meaningful information using data-oriented programming languages and visualization software
  • Skilled in understanding the implications of new information for both current and future problem-solving and decision-making
  • Ability to arrange things or actions in a certain order or pattern according to a specific rule or set of rules (e.g., patterns of numbers, letters, words, pictures, mathematical operations)
  • Ability to tell when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong
  • Ability to compare similarities and differences quickly and accurately among sets of letters, numbers, objects, pictures, or patterns at the same time or one after the other
  • Ability to imagine how something will look after it is moved around or when its parts are moved or rearranged
Education
  • Required: High School Diploma or GED
Experience
  • Entry-level experience, developing skills and knowledge in:
    • Technical writing
Licensing/Certification

Physical Abilities
  • Ability to perform work duties from [limited space workstation/desk/office area] for extended periods of time
  • Ability to communicate and interact with others in the English language to meet the demands of the job
  • Ability to use a computer and other office productivity tools with sufficient speed and accuracy to meet the demands of the job
Other Qualifications
  • Must maintain a well-groomed appearance per Company appearance standards as described in established guidelines
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or have authorization to work in the United States as defined by the Immigration Reform Act of 1986
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Must be able to comply with Company attendance standards as described in established guidelines

Pay & Benefits:

Competitive market salary from $61,850 - $68,700 per year* depending on qualifications and experience. For eligible Leadership and individual contributor roles, additional bonus opportunities are available and awarded at the discretion of the company.
