Auburn University's National Center for Additive Manufacturing Excellence (
NCAME) and the Department of Mechanical Engineering invite applications for an Assistant Research Professor. This position is a 12-month non-tenure track faculty assignment within the Auburn University research faculty family. This position will be responsible for conducting research and execute tasks specified in
NCAME active projects. These include-but are not limited to-designing of experiments, microstructural/mechanical characterizations, and analysis, performing numerical simulations, advising undergraduate and graduate students, and writing reports, scholarly papers, and proposals. The selected individual will have a one-year written employment contract, which may be renewed for future years based on need, availability of funding, and performance. The total term of employment will not exceed the period of available funding from contract and grant, generated income, or other designated funds.
The National Center for Additive Manufacturing Excellence (
NCAME) at Auburn University (AU), which was founded in 2017 through partnership with the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (
NASA) and the National Institute of standards and Technology (
NIST), is housed within Gavin Engineering Research Laboratory, a $20 million construction project created for laboratories and office spaces dedicated to additive manufacturing of metals.
NCAME conducts research on improving the performance of parts that are created using AM, shares research results with industry and government collaborators, and responds to workforce development needs in the AM industry. The center is also a founding partner of the
ASTM International's Additive Manufacturing Center of Excellence (AM CoE), which directs its efforts to the development of new standards for the AM industry, as well as research to advance AM technology and workforce development. |
Minimum Qualifications |
Applicants must have a Ph.D. in Mechanical, Materials or Industrial Engineering or closely related field at the time employment begins. The candidate selected for this position must be able to meet eligibility requirements to work in the United States at the time appointment is scheduled to begin, and must continue working legally for the proposed term of employment. Desired Qualifications |
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, a record of high quality research publications in refereed journals and conference proceedings, and demonstrated ability to work within multidisciplinary teams. |
