JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Penn State is searching for a full time Chilled Water Operator - Grade 4 to join the team. Duties include:
  • Maintain proper cooling temperatures and differential chilled water pressures in chilled water systems to support the proper operation of building systems
  • Add or remove equipment as necessary to ensure optimal system performance under varied occupancy load, humidity, and temperature conditions
  • Make transitions to free-cooling or mechanical-cooling as determined by humidity and outside temperature conditions
  • Reset equipment routinely or as necessary after electrical power events
  • Monitor temperatures, pressures, flows and alarms in system equipment such as chillers, condensers, cooling towers, pumps, etc.
  • Make adjustments to pumps and valves to modulate balance of chilled water flow
  • Maintain chiller equipment logs
  • Report exceptions to lead technician and/or supervisor
  • Perform preventive and routine scheduled maintenance on all system equipment and auxiliary components and make various adjustments as needed
  • Schedule and perform cleaning of units such as condensers, strainers, evaporators, and cooling water towers
  • Use associated tools and equipment required to maintain and perform preventive maintenance on chilling equipment and related auxiliary components
  • Assist refrigeration technician-utilities
  • Occasionally, direct the work of lower grade employees
  • Operate motor vehicle, and aerial equipment as required

BACKGROUND CHECKS/CLEARANCES

Employment with the University will require successful completion of background check(s) in accordance with University policies. This position requires that you operate a motor vehicle as a part of your job duties. A valid driver's license and successful completion of a motor vehicle records check will be required in addition to standard background checks. Penn State does not sponsor or take over sponsorship of a staff employment Visa. Applicants must be authorized to work in the U.S.
