Responsibilities:
- Understands and incorporates AORN, TJC, and other professional and regulatory standards into clinical practice. Adheres to all Inova policies and procedures and coaches staff on compliance to all policies and procedures.
- Coordinates the delivery of appropriate services for specialty, physician group, and population. Engages the OR team in critical thinking about the management of the case. Collaborates with the OR team and serves as a resource. Sequences case, physician, and patient care activities to include instrumentation, equipment and supplies, appropriate staff and specialty personnel, tests, and therapies. Ensures all safety standards are addressed with the team.
- Facilitates seamless transitions between pre-, intra-, and post-operative patient care. Assists, both directly and indirectly, with room turnover. Ensures surgical pause is performed according to the procedure.
- Identifies physician, case, staff, and patient family learning needs proactively. Identifies, recognizes, and participates in the development of education materials for specific specialty services needs.
- Incorporates the use of standards and guidelines to improve perioperative practice. Leads team in striving for best practices.
- Assists the Clinical Director in developing a plan to overcome recognized variances in performance or adherence to best practice. Seeks knowledge of new trends in practice. Assists the Clinical Director as a primary resource for scrubbing all CVOR surgical procedures.
- Reviews current clinical research literature and shares with leadership team and staff.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Certification - Basic Life Support upon start
- Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) via NBSTSA or Tech in Surgery - Certified (TS-C) via NCCTLicensure
- Registered Surgical Technologist with VA- Upon Start
- Experience - 2 years of Surgical Technologist experience in cardiac surgery
- Education - High School diploma or equivalent
