The Assistant Vice President for State Relations reports to the Associate VP for Government Affairs of The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center and Health Sciences Colleges. The Assistant Vice President for State Relations represents the OSU Wexner Medical Center, Health Sciences Colleges, and the health-related research centers primarily before the Ohio General Assembly and State administration on goals and objectives that require government action while best positioning the OSU Wexner Medical Center and Health Sciences Colleges to access opportunities in accordance with institutional priorities. The Assistant Vice President for State Relations possesses an in-depth understanding of vital healthcare issues, assesses implications and opportunities in state legislative activity; facilitates interaction with state elected officials and their staff and state agency personnel; and possesses strong research, analytical, and communication skills. The Assistant Vice President for State Relations assists in developing, supporting and implementing the Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center state public policy agenda; developing outreach partnerships and relationships and advancing Ohio State Wexner Medical Center and health sciences priorities with regard to state government, associated organizations, and other community leaders; works with decision-makers at Ohio State Wexner Medical Center and the University, including department heads, medical staff, hospital managers, and other faculty and staff; advises and/or facilitates strategic planning initiatives; develops priorities for state governmental relations as necessary to best position OSU Wexner Medical Center and health sciences to access opportunities in accordance with institutional priorities; identifies state funding opportunities in education, research, clinical care, capital, appropriations, and public policy issues; develops strategies, policies and public sector programs that support the health and welfare of the community we serve; identifies and builds relationships with new and existing outreach programs in alignment with the Medical Center's mission, vision and values; represents OSU Wexner Medical Center with key external constituencies. Minimum Qualifications: A Bachelor's degree in public affairs, public administration, public relations, or related field required; 8 years of government experience required; excellent analytical, problem-solving, written and verbal communication skills required. Requires successful completion of a background check. Selected candidate may be requested to complete a pre-employment physical including a drug screen.
