Summary
Performs routine testing in a high-complexity clinical diagnostic laboratory. Responsible for receiving patient samples and preparing them for microscopic examination and analysis by Pathology. Troubleshoots on-hold cases and collaborates with the Laboratory Operations team to ensure efficient workflow. Focuses on cutting, mounting, staining, and batching slides. Able to work independently and handle more complex specimens.

Essential Functions
Trains new technologists on proper procedures and techniques
Evaluates new technology for clinical application and assists in updating procedure manuals for inspections and accreditations
Receives and accounts for all blocks, resolving any issues related to blocks and slides
Ensures timely and accurate work in assigned areas such as histology, special stains, neuropathology, frozen sections, and immunohistochemistry
Determines when to modify techniques or equipment to meet quality standards
Maintains quality control logs and ensures daily completion
Oversees quality control for all reagents

Education
High School Diploma or Equivalent required or Trade/Technical/Vocational Diploma Related Field of Study required

Experience
clinical based experience 5-7 years required

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Must be able to correctly and accurately embed all human tissue to include skin and or animal tissues.
- Must follow minimum national cutting standards of 50 blocks per hour embedding and 30 slides per hour cutting.
- Must be able cut artifact free two micrometer sections.
- Must be able to competently perform all special and immunohistochemistry stains with minimum supervision using both manual and automated methodologies.
- Must be able to impart this knowledge to others including junior technical or clerical staff and residents.
