Biology research technician (RT) position available at the A. A. Martinos Center for Biomedical Imaging at Massachusetts General Hospital in Charlestown to support the development of molecular imaging probes. The RT works as part of a team to perform research studies. The RT collects and analyzes study data as well as documents, compiles and maintains research data.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

We are seeking a full-time Research Technician to take on several job responsibilities. We will train all employees.

The major responsibilities we are looking for a Research Technician to take on are:

1. Tissue processing and histological analyses

  • Candidate will be trained but histology experience is a plus.
  • Candidate must:
    • Prepare samples for fixation and sectioning
    • Perform chemical and immunostaining of tissue per established protocols
    • Analyze images and perform quantitative assessments
    • Generate data summaries to report to senior scientists

2. Rodent models of disease.

  • Candidate will be trained but experience working with mice or rats is a plus
  • Candidate must:
    • Assist in the application of animal models including rodent anesthesia, intravenous and intraperitoneal injections, oral gavage, and organ collection
    • Post-procedural follow-up
    • Be willing to be trained in other aspects of animal models, e.g. model generation by surgical procedures for tumor implantation, diet induced disease models, etc.
    • Be willing to work with radiation and/or radioactive isotopes for diagnostics and treatment
    • Generate data summaries to report to senior scientists

3. Chemical and biochemical assays

  • General wet lab knowledge is required for this project
  • A variety of assays using standard protocols are performed in the lab. These involve:
    • Protein preparation, purification, quantification using standard techniques like FPLC, BCA assay, Western blot, SDS-PAGE
    • PCR
    • HPLC analyses
    • Data analysis using Excel or GraphPad Prism
    • Reporting data summaries to senior scientists

4. Cell culture

  • Mammalian cell culture

SKILLS & COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:

  • Some experience with handling rodents, rodent anesthesia, intravenous injections, and/or organ collection is preferred.
  • Experience in surgical procedures in rodents is highly preferred.
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member.
  • Strong research skills to ascertain relevant information and communicate findings
  • High degree of computer literacy
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Project management skills
  • Strong writing skills
  • Ability to handle a variety of tasks in a fast-paced environment
  • The successful candidate will be expected to work independently and willing to master new techniques. Salary will be commensurate with experience.
