Position Summary

Organization: New Mexico Museum of Natural History & Science

Location: 1801 Mountain Rd NW, Albuquerque, New Mexico

An Off-Campus Work-Study Position - MUST have a Work-Study Award

The Registrar's Assistant will support the Registrars
Department by contributing to various research initiatives and collections
management tasks. This role involves hands-on work with historical documents,
artifacts, and fossils, requiring strong research, organizational, and communication
skills. This position works a maximum of 15 hours per week (30 hours per
two-week pay period).

Key Responsibilities:

Conduct
in-depth research using historical documents and museum media archives to
interpret and organize information.

Work
independently to investigate the history of artifacts using limited or
vague source material, and draft detailed descriptions of 3D objects for
museum records.

Maintain
a digital database ensuring all records are accurate and up to date.

Handle
artifacts and fossil specimens with care, adhering strictly to museum
protocols for preservation and safety.

Draft
and edit departmental documents and assist in monitoring the physical
condition of collection items.

Inspect
specimens on exhibit to document condition and record environmental
conditions-such as temperature and humidity-of exhibit cases to ensure
compliance with conservation and loan agreements.
