Description
The Technology and Facilities Manager oversees all aspects of performance venue management, technology infrastructure, and audio/visual support for the School of Music. This role requires expertise in managing Ward Hall and Shamblin venue setups, coordinating with multiple departments, and providing technical support for concerts, recitals, and events. The manager is responsible for livestream mixing during Commercial Music Ensemble week, scheduling maintenance of instruments, and working closely with ETS and the Film Department for performance requirements and livestreaming needs. They maintain all audio equipment, recording studio facilities, and the Student Resource Center while coordinating with IT for faculty technology needs. The position involves supervising student workers for event coverage, maintaining comprehensive documentation systems, and archiving performance recordings for accreditation purposes. This role requires exceptional organizational skills, technical expertise, and the ability to troubleshoot equipment issues during critical performances while maintaining detailed inventory systems for all instruments and audio equipment. Performance Venue Management
- Oversee setup and teardown for concerts, recitals, and events. This includes management of the student scholarship teams for all recitals and Music seminars in Ward Hall.
- Schedule all events as requested in Shamblin, including Commercial Music Ensembles.
- Perform all live stream mixing for CME week
- In conjunction with the administrative assistants, schedule regular maintenance of pianos and other instruments
- Coordinate with ETS on at least two weeks in advance on all venue and performance requirements for upcoming events
- Coordinate with Film Department for any additional filming/live streaming for CMEs
- Work with faculty and ensemble directors on planning budgets for events, including quotes from ETS and outside vendors.
Technology/Equipment Infrastructure
- Manage all audio equipment, including streaming software/equipment for recitals in Ward
- Maintain and upgrade recording studio equipment and facilities
- Oversee materials in the SRC, including computers, workstations and software licensing
- Coordinate with IT department as needed for faculty and staff computer upgrades and maintenance and to whitelist IP addresses for streaming needs
- With the administrative assistant, complete inventory of all instruments and develop check out system for all equipment.
Audio/Visual Support
- Provide technical support for performances, including sound and recording request
- Maintain inventory of microphones, cables, and other audio equipment
- Support faculty with classroom technology needs as requested (in conjunction with IT)
- Troubleshoot equipment issues during critical events
- Archive recordings of performances and maintain digital storage systems for accreditation
- Edit and upload recitals to the school Youtube site
Budget Management
- Along with director, prepare and manage annual operating budget for facilities upgrades and technology
- Research and recommend equipment purchases
- Manage equipment inventory
- Manage budgets for repair and upkeep of equipment
- Seek cost-effective solutions for maintenance and upgrades
Staff Supervison
- Hire, train, and supervise student workers for performance setup and technical support
- Schedule student worker coverage for evening and weekend events as requested
Administrative Duties
- Coordinate with campus-wide departments (IT, ETS, Facilities Management, Security)
- Work with ETS to develop additional practicum opportunities for students of the School of Music
- Maintain documentation for equipment, warranties, and service contracts, including any leases and subscriptions
- Create regular reports on building usage, technology needs, and maintenance issues
Planning and Development
- Create long-term plans for facility improvements and technology upgrades for NASM reports and Program Reviews
- Research emerging music technologies for potential implementation
- Develop medium term plan for an additional production lab space
