Position Description:
The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW) is seeking a Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM) to join our collaborative and thriving academic practice. This role offers the opportunity to provide high-quality, patient-centered care in both inpatient and outpatient settings.
The CNM will provide full-scope midwifery care, including prenatal, intrapartum, postpartum, and gynecologic services. Working in partnership with physicians and other healthcare professionals, the CNM will support patients through pregnancy, birth, and beyond, ensuring compassionate and evidence-based care.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide full-scope prenatal and postpartum care in accordance with ACOG standards.
- Perform gynecological exams and educate patients on health, nutrition, and family planning.
- Counsel expectant mothers on birthing plans and hospital care.
- Coach and support mothers through the birthing process.
- Perform deliveries and assist in cesarean births as needed.
- Monitor the health and well-being of both mother and newborn during and after delivery.
- Perform newborn circumcision as needed.
- Participate in emergency care procedures, including CPR.
- Document care accurately in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR).
- Collaborate with physicians and other healthcare providers.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and educational opportunities.
- Attend required training and meet regulatory requirements (CMS, Joint Commission, etc.).
Core Advanced Practice Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive histories and physical exams.
- Order, perform, and interpret diagnostic tests.
- Develop and monitor treatment plans.
- Educate patients and families on disease management and preventive care.
- Perform procedures as credentialed and trained.
- Stay current with developments in midwifery and women's health.
Preferred Schedule:
Full-time role with expectations for coverage during core business hours and flexibility required as necessary to accommodate business needs
Position Requirements:
- Current certification as a Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM) through the American Midwifery Certification Board (AMCB).
- Active and unrestricted RN and APRN license in Wisconsin (or eligibility to obtain).
- BLS/CPR certification.
- Experience in women's health and obstetrics preferred.
- Strong communication skills, professionalism, and a collaborative spirit.
