Position Summary:

Applied Training Solutions, LLC is seeking a qualified Public Information Officer (PIO) to support emergency operations by managing communications with the public, media, and partner agencies. This position is responsible for developing and disseminating accurate, timely information and implementing strategies to manage rumor control and public perception during incidents.

Key Responsibilities:



  • Interface with the public, media, and other agencies to meet incident-related information requirements
  • Develop and distribute press releases, talking points, and public advisories
  • Conduct media interviews and deliver on-the-record public statements
  • Coordinate with agency partners to ensure consistent and unified messaging
  • Monitor media outlets and social media for situational awareness and rumor control
  • Implement communication strategies to address misinformation and public concerns
  • Support press conferences and media briefings during emergency operations
  • Assist in the development of public awareness campaigns and outreach materials
  • Document media activities and prepare after-action communications reports


Basic Qualifications:



  • 3+ years of media experience with on-the-record responsibilities
  • Experience participating in or leading large-scale media campaigns
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to communicate clearly under pressure in dynamic environments
  • Familiarity with emergency management or disaster response operations
  • Must be a U.S. citizen


Preferred Qualifications:



  • Experience working as a PIO in an EOC or incident command environment
  • Knowledge of Joint Information System (JIS) and Joint Information Center (JIC) protocols
  • Proficiency with digital communication platforms and public alert systems
  • Background in journalism, public relations, or emergency communications

  • Travel Required: Yes - up to 100% while on assignment


Working Environment:

The usual work environment is an office, media center, or EOC setting. This role may require public speaking, media appearances, and real-time coordination during high-pressure events. Travel includes locations throughout the continental United States and its territories, and duties may involve extended work periods beyond 12 hours per day.
