Associates are eligible to apply for a transfer after completion of one (1) year of service in their present position, with the following exception: an Associate who has received a written warning is not eligible for a transfer/promotion prior to six (6) months from date of issuance; an Associate who has been suspended is not eligible for transfer/promotion prior to one (1) year from date of suspension. Probationary period is four (4) months for full-time employees, and six (6) months for part-time employees.

Montefiore Medical Center is proud to announce the upcoming launch of a new acute inpatient psychiatric facility dedicated to providing high-quality, short-term psychiatric care for children and adolescents. This specialized unit will enhance access to timely, developmentally appropriate mental health services, offering a safe, structured, and compassionate environment to support patients in crisis and help stabilize their condition.

As part of our efforts to build a strong, multidisciplinary team, we are currently seeking a Registered Nurse. The Registered Nurse will provide direct patient care within the Child & Adolescent Behavioral Health Unit, supporting youth experiencing acute psychiatric crises. Utilizing behavioral health expertise and trauma-informed care principles, the RN delivers safe, therapeutic, and developmentally appropriate interventions. This role involves active participation in performance improvement and research initiatives with adherence to professional practice standards, and continuous development of clinical expertise. Additionally, the RN demonstrates strong leadership skills and maintains core and unit-specific competencies tailored to the needs of the patient population, with a specialized focus on psychiatric care and behavioral health nursing practices.

EDUCATION, TRAINING & EXPERIENCE:

Required:

  • Current New York State License and Registration as a Registered Professional Nurse.
  • Minimum of 1-2 years of inpatient pediatric and/or psychiatric nursing experience, preferably in child/adolescent behavioral health.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) training.
  • Willingness to complete training in behavioral health nursing, including trauma-informed care and/or crisis prevention within 6 months of hire.

Preferred:

  • Minimum of 2-3 years of experience working with children and adolescents in psychiatric or acute care settings.
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
  • Certification in Psychiatric-Mental Health Nursing (PMHN-BC).
  • Experience in acute psychiatric settings with an emphasis on trauma-informed care, crisis prevention, and therapeutic engagement.

Qualified candidates must have or be eligible for NYS RN License, must include referring associates name within their application &successfully complete their probationary period!
