BASIC PURPOSE The purpose of this position is to perform food pick-ups and deliveries, as well as assist with transportation and set up needs for program and events. Responsible for safely operating Salvation Army vehicles and equipment as well as obeying all laws, regulation and rules of conduct set forth by The Salvation Army Lodi Corps, the California Department of Motor Vehicles, the Department of Transportation, and OSHA. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Operate all company vehicles in a safe and efficient manner.
- Perform daily safety and maintenance checks on vehicles and equipment.
- Always maintain appropriate vehicle fluid levels.
- Clean vehicles as scheduled and/or required.
- Ensure vehicles are safely and securely stored, keeping windows and doors locked
- Report any security concerns, handle security and crisis situations calmly.
- Notify supervisor of any needed maintenance or repairs.
- Pickup food donations, interact with store representatives, and represent The Salvation Army in a professional and courteous manner.
- Load and unload box truck with forklift, weigh and record all food donations according to policy, ensure food rotation of food supplies.
- Assist with the upkeep, appearance, and cleanliness of the Lodi Corps.
- Assist with food distribution to clients (food box preparation, distribution, and Hope Harbor food support).
- Follow and implement all safety rules to ensure a safe working area.
- Maintain knowledge of programs and facilities.
- Adhere to Lodi Corps operations and all company policy procedures.
- Observe safety rules and regulations, staying up to date on all DMV, DOT and TSA requirements for drivers.
- Complete required training.
- Attend staff meetings as assigned.
- Maintain confidentiality.
- Other related duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND OTHER QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTS
- Must be able to give written and verbal instructions in English.
- Ability to use computer for daily & weekly reporting of donations received as well as being able to communicate through emails
- Ability to operate a box truck, vans, forklift in safe and responsible manner (forklift driving experience or certification preferred)
- Knowledge of scheduling systems and procedures.
- Ability to work successfully with the challenging behaviors of pre-programmers in our care.
- At least one year of warehouse experience preferred.
- Have a sense of cleanliness, tidiness, and neatness.
- Have good supervision skills and be able to work closely and cooperatively with other staff members.
- Have ability to work with and serve a wide range of clients, volunteers, and beneficiaries.
- Have positive public relation skills.
- Must possess a high degree of initiative, ability to work with little oversight, and an effective team member.
- Knowledge of Salvation Army policies and procedures helpful
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
- Must possess a valid California Class C Driver License, and ability to drive a Salvation Army vehicle
- Must be 21 years or older.
- Must be able to successfully pass a criminal background check to include a DOJ Livescan Fingerprint check.
- Complete The Salvation Army vehicle course training.
- Must attend TSA Program and Child Safety Training.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, manage stairs, and twist on an intermittent or continuous basis.
- Ability to grasp, push, pull objects such as files, file cabinet drawers, clothing carts, merchandise carts, rolling clothing racks, fixtures, furniture dollies, platform trucks and carts, hand trucks and miscellaneous carts.
- Have uninhibited physical mobility in bending and lifting up to 50 lbs.
- Requires exerting up to 100 lbs. of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
- Ability to operate a wireless phone or radio.
- Ability to operate a motor vehicle
- Ability to perform various repetitive motion tasks
- Ability to verbally interact with staff, clients, volunteers, donors, and children.
