About the Job

**Please note: This is a one-year appointment from 8/25/25-8/24/26, and may be renewed depending on PI funding outcomes.

75% - Research about Beavers and Beaver Mimicry in the North America
- Utilize beaver occupancy models, as well as performing QA/QC on AI beaver identification
model outputs, to evaluate the potential population count and distribution of beavers.
- Use/develop appropriate computer modeling and remote sensing techniques to estimate
vegetation greenness, burn severity, and total water and carbon storage in actual and potential beaver occupancy scenarios.
- Use/develop geospatial models for wildfire behavior and progression in and around riparian
corridors influenced by beaver ecosystem engineering
- Participate in planning and execution of field work as needed
- Interface with partner organizations

25% - Writing, Publications, and Outreach
- Write manuscripts for peer-reviewed publications based upon research findings.
- Develop oral presentation materials detailing research findings
- Attend conference(s) relevant to research and share findings
- Engage in outreach events in the community to share research findings with the public

Qualifications

Required Qualifications
* A master's degree in geography, GIS, environmental science or a related discipline by
the start date with one or more years of research training
* Advanced computer modeling skills, including experience with machine learning and/or
automation, and spatiotemporal modeling
* Experience piloting drones for research and processing drone data
* Part 107 certified or willing to get certified
* Strong knowledge of beaver ecosystem engineering
* Strong knowledge of remote sensing
* Strong knowledge of wetland ecosystems, hydrology, and classifications
* Previous experience working with the BRAT (Beaver Restoration Assessment Tool)
model
* Strong writing and public communication skills
* Familiarity with the following software, languages, and tools: R, Python, ESRI suite,
QGIS, Pix4D, IFTDSS
* Prior professional experience in educational or community-focused environments where
science communication is a part of job duties

Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: $58,240-$59,240 depending on education/qualifications/experience

Time Appointment Category: 75%-100% Appointment (If job description above does not specify appointment or expected weekly hours, assume a 100% appointment.)
