Position Summary

The Salvation Army Northern Division Lakewood Corps is committed to "Doing the Most Good" by providing holistic, person-centered services to individuals and families. In addition to worship services and pastoral care, services include support with food, clothing, utilities, rent, securing housing, and both short- and long-term case management, as well as connections to community partners.

The Community Center Manager organizes, coordinates, and leads mission-driven recreational and educational programming for individuals of all ages. This position manages the daily operations of the community center, including scheduling and oversight of facility usage and rentals, recordkeeping related to membership and building use, and on-site presence during events. The Manager also fosters community partnerships, builds relationships with youth and families, and supports seasonal events and fundraising efforts that enhance community visibility and engagement.

$21.03 - $31.55/hour, 40 hours/week

Essential Functions (Approximate time spent)



  • Program Development & Facilitation (40%): Plan, implement, promote, and lead recreational programs and events for Maplewood and the surrounding community (e.g., after-school programs, senior activities, sports leagues, tournaments, The Salvation Army Outdoors program).
  • Facility Operations & Oversight (35%): Coordinate scheduling, access, and setup/teardown for internal and external use of the community center. Provide on-site oversight for rental groups during activities and events. Administer rental agreements, maintain the membership database, compile usage statistics, and track membership and facility rental fees.
  • Community Engagement & Outreach (15%): Promote partnerships and programming by participating in internal and external activities. Actively build relationships and support efforts to increase the visibility and reach of the community center and other Salvation Army initiatives.
  • Youth & Family Engagement (5%): Build and maintain positive relationships with youth and their families involved in community center programming.
  • Event & Fundraising Support (5%): Assist with seasonal events and fundraising activities, including transporting materials, participants, or seasonal employees using agency vehicles.



Education and Experience



  • High school diploma or equivalent required, with at least 3 years of related experience in community center operations, recreational programming, youth services, or a related field.
  • An associate degree or equivalent college coursework in recreation, education, human services, or a related field, with at least 1 year of related experience, is highly preferred.
  • Experience coordinating events, facilitating group activities, or working with diverse populations is strongly preferred.
  • Current CPR, First Aid, and AED certifications required, or must be obtained within 90 days of hire.
  • Must successfully pass all background checks.
  • Valid driver's license and meet the MVR qualifications required or be able to obtain within 90 days.



Competencies



  • Ability to lead youth activities in a safe, engaging, and age-appropriate manner.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to build rapport and de-escalate challenging situations.
  • Demonstrated integrity and discretion in handling confidential information.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and general computer use.



Working Conditions



  • Must be able to meet the physical demands of the role, including mobility, bending, reaching, typing, and lifting up to 20 pounds.
  • Participation in recreational activities is required.
  • Work occurs in both office and gymnasium settings; remote work is not available.
  • Must demonstrate clear, respectful, and effective communication with others.
  • Schedule includes evening and weekend hours.



Supervisory Responsibilities



  • Supervise community center and youth program staff and volunteers, providing ongoing guidance, performance feedback, and mentorship.



Driving/Travel Requirements



  • Operate agency vehicles in support of program operations and organizational objectives.
  • Frequent local travel is required; rare out-of-town or overnight travel may be necessary.
