Key Areas of Responsibility:



  1. To provide state-of-the-art and relevant instruction that contributes to each member's class/program goals.
  2. To develop and instruct fun, energetic, and highly motivational classes for all ages and skill levels.
  3. Implement safety measures for classes to ensure the health and safety of class participants.
  4. Ensure that the ultimate goal of spiritual, emotional, and physical regeneration of all people is represented and infused in all programs, trainings, customer relations, and levels of operations


Specific Functions:



  1. To provide state of the art and relevant instruction that contributes to each member class/program goals.
  2. Instruct with sound principles in the area of instruction.
  3. Ability to teach beginners through advanced learners.
  4. Provide individual and group guidelines for development in programs
  5. Critique and give feedback to participants regarding their work and performance level.
  6. Ability to develop, implement and evaluate programs and classes according to desired outcomes and goals.
  7. Maintain an open communication with the respective program manager/coordinator in regards to class development and scheduling.
  8. Maintain a professional demeanor and attitude with students of all ages, patrons, customers, staff and upper management.
  9. Ensure that any classroom changes or modifications are communicated to all classroom participants in an efficient manner.
  10. Carry out program evaluations as directed.
  11. To develop and instruct fun, energetic, and highly motivational classes for all ages and skill levels.
  12. Design instructional programs, prepare lesson plans and instructional materials, present subject matter demonstrating proper techniques, and perform classroom management tasks.
  13. Ability to speak and communicate before both small and large groups of people with poise and enthusiasm.
  14. Create, teach, demonstrate, and implement planned practices suitable for children and adults of all ages and abilities.
  15. Provide a safe, fun, and enjoyable learning environment for all participants.
  16. Implement safety measures for classes to ensure the health and safety of class participants.
  17. To work with the respective program manager/coordinator in the development of program health and safety policies and procedures. This will include the development and oversight of risk assessments for programs and program areas.
  18. Adhere to all Safe from Harm Policies and Procedures as established by The Salvation Army.
  19. Knowledge of safety precautions needed and ability to ensure compliance/ adherence by class members.
  20. Maintain a safe working environment; report all harmful problems with facilities to the proper personnel.
  21. Understand and follow all accurate accident and incident reports as required, and immediately notify the appropriate authority of all accidents or potentially unsafe conditions
  22. Insure that the ultimate goal of spiritual, emotional and physical regeneration of all people in represented and infused in all programs, trainings, customer relations, and levels of operation.
  23. Be on time and prepared to teach your class.
  24. Help facilitate equality and fairness among all participants.
  25. Follow and adhere to all of The Salvation Army Policies and Procedures.


Qualifications:



  1. Appropriate prior experience teaching or working in the area of instruction
  2. specified; required. Experience requirements will vary depending on the class.
  3. Certification or a degree in a related field or level of expertise is required.
  4. Where applicable, must have up-to-date personal insurance prior to employment.
  5. Must have a high school diploma or GED equivalency.
  6. Must be at least 18 years old.
  7. Must have strong organizational skills and abilities.
  8. Must be able to function effectively with minimal or no supervision.
  9. Must be able to demonstrate various skills in the area of instruction specified.
  10. A minimum of one (1) year experience teaching various or specific group exercise program's
  11. Current First Aid, CPR and AED, or ability to obtain within 45 days.
  12. Excellent communication and leadership skills.
  13. Must be able to read, write and communicate in English. Ability to speak Spanish desired.
  14. Must have physical ability to instruct appropriate classes.
  15. Meet all health and safety regulations as defined by the Health Department as well as The Salvation Army.
  16. Have a working knowledge of Microsoft programs, including Word, PowerPoint and Excel preferred.
