Position Summary:

We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Genetic Counselor. In this role, the successful candidate is responsible for fulfilling the need for genetic counseling services in NYU/Bellevue Hospital. Offers services in the inpatient wards and outpatient clinics of NYU/Bellevue Hospital.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrates knowledge of the organization's Core Values and incorporates them into the performance of duties.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Responsible for clinical program that provides genetic counseling services for pediatric and adult patients and their families in the inpatient and ambulatory settings - Screening program: DNA carrier testing and counseling for recessive genes i.e. cystic fibrosis and Ashkenazi Jewish diseases
  • Participates in the weekly case presentations of the Human Genetics Program (HGP). Actively participates in activities of the Medical School. Offers education in genetics to medical students and residents.
  • Genetic counseling and predisposition DNA testing of individuals at risk for complex diseases, such as specific forms of cancer.
  • Genetic counseling and presymptomatic DNA testing of individuals at risk for specific single-gene diseases.
  • Clinical genetic evaluations and counseling along with a clinical geneticist, primarily genetic counseling in patients with suspected or diagnosed genetic disorders.
  • Conducts prenatal genetic evaluation of pregnancies at risk because of abnormal maternal serum screening and/or abnormal fetal ultrasound.
  • Performs prenatal diagnosis of genetic diseases.
  • Performs carrier testing and counseling for recessive genes common in particular ethnic groups (i.e. Jewish genetic diseases panel, hemoglobinopathies) or because of positive family history.

Minimum Qualifications:

To qualify you must have a Master's Degree in Genetic Counseling; board eligible by the American Board of Genetic Counselors.

Preferred Qualifications:

Interest in education and pursuing scholarly activity.

Qualified candidates must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.

NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York state Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $67,771.14 - $108,674.59 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
