In this position, the successful candidate will oversee the design effort of site civil, grading and drainage, yard piping, and linear construction for water, wastewater, and stormwater projects of various sizes and complexities. These projects include both conventional design/bid/build and alternative delivery methods and will serve both municipal and industrial clients. They will lead civil design teams and will collaborate with other discipline teams as needed. They will be responsible for working effectively with local and virtual team members to achieve project schedule and quality goals and will assist in the civil discipline portion of business development activities, including development of project scopes and budgets.

Remote work is allowed from Central/Mountain/Pacific time zones; hybrid work is preferred and the ideal candidate will be located near one of our offices in Denver, Boise, Salt Lake City, Houston or Dallas.

Detailed Description:

This position involves working with technical staff to execute the following types of work:



  • Creation of civil engineering designs for water, wastewater, recycled water, and stormwater projects that include site layouts, grading and drainage, yard piping, and pipelines.
  • Preparation of alternative analyses, preliminary engineering reports, technical memorandums, basis of design reports, construction drawings and specifications, and permitting packages.
  • The use of a wide range of software design tools.
  • The application of hydrology and hydraulics concepts associated with the design of open channels, closed conduits, stormwater management facilities, reservoirs, and stormwater management.
  • Reviewing the work of others for quality to resolve design and construction issues.
  • Oversight and completion of data collection, manipulation, analysis, and documentation.
  • Fieldwork such as site investigations, sampling, condition assessments, and construction observation.
  • Submittal reviews, requests for information, and change orders related to construction management.
  • Assistance in project scope and budget development.
  • Project scope review and coordination with subconsultants.
  • Company standards development and updates.
  • Mentoring and coaching of junior staff.

Minimum Qualifications:



  • Bachelor's degree in Civil/Environmental Engineering or related engineering field.
  • Minimum of 10 years of professional experience in municipal and/or industrial civil design in the water or wastewater sectors.
  • Professional Engineering license in the state of Texas, or the ability to receive said license through reciprocity.
  • Experience working with local and regional permitting agencies to obtain site, zoning, stormwater, and other associated permits.
  • Proficiency in standard computer programs such as Microsoft Office suite and Bluebeam or Adobe Acrobat.
  • The ability to articulate ideas and concepts.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.


Preferred Qualifications



  • 15 years or more of professional experience in municipal and/or industrial civil design in the water and/or wastewater sectors.
  • Basic knowledge of Civil 3D.
  • Experience using engineering calculation software (e.g. MathCAD).
  • Experience using hydrology and hydraulic calculations/modeling software (e.g. HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, Hydraflow Storm Sewers, etc.).
  • Field and construction experience.
  • GIS experience.


Salary Range: The anticipated starting pay range for this position is based on the employee's primary work location and may be more or less depending upon skills, experience, and education. These ranges may be modified in the future.

Location A: $106,000 - $145,000

Location B: $117,000 - $160,000
