Clinical and Surgical Assistant - Luong Plastic Surgery

Description

This position provides technical expertise and patient care assistance in both the operating room and clinic setting.

This is a temporary, part-time position working Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday between the hours of 7:00 am - 3:30 pm out of our Edina clinic.

Luong Plastic Surgery is an operating division of Infinite Health Collaborative (i-Health), a group of local medical practices, owned and led by its physicians, on a mission to give patients more control over their healthcare.


Essential Functions:
Operating Room:

  • Instruct staff on surgeon's preferences for surgical procedure and confirm presence of the equipment and supplies for the scheduled procedure.
  • Creates and maintains an aseptic surgical environment throughout the intraoperative process.
  • Assists the surgeon(s) and other surgical team members with all phases of the surgical procedure. Perform surgical tasks as directed by the surgeon.
  • Applies knowledge of surgical procedures to anticipate the needs of the surgeon(s) throughout the intraoperative phase.
  • Demonstrates competency to operate all specialty instruments, supplies and equipment unique to the OR for all types of surgical procedures.


Clinic Setting:

  • Review/prep clinical patient schedule prior to clinics
  • Room patients and prepare for exam, take photos as directed, prepare cost estimates, and assist during office procedures.
  • Gather and verify pertinent patient information and enter into EMR; assist with scheduling surgical cases
  • Act as a prescribing delegate as directed by MD/PA.
  • Assist with maintaining an efficient clinical flow
  • Prepare, stock, and clean exam rooms and other clinic areas as directed
  • Assist with medical supply inventory
  • Maintain and sterilize instruments and surgical packs
  • Maintain log and required checks of refrigerator, medication, sterilizer, biohazardous waste, etc
  • Answer phones and assist with patient scheduling, message triage and documentation such information in EMR.
  • Any and all other duties as assigned


Education and Experience Requirements:



  • Graduate from an accredited surgical technology program preferred.
  • One year of Operating Room experience in the last 3 years preferred.
  • Current member of the A.S.T. preferred.
  • Current BLS certification or completed upon hire.

  • Travel independently throughout the clinic, office or surgery center (which may include movement from floor to floor); frequent bending, lifting, standing, stooping or sitting for long periods of time may be required

  • Communicate and interact in a respectful and professional manner
  • Prioritize workload while being flexible to meet the expectations of the daily operations
  • Apply principles of logical thinking to define problems, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
  • Understand and execute a variety of instructions
  • Effectively operate equipment and communicate on and operate the phone system
  • Work independently with minimal supervision
  • Travel to other work locations, if required
