Summary of Position

As Clinical AI Scientist II - Digital Pathology, you will collaborate in cross-functional teams to design, implement, and continually improve on advanced Clinical AI modules and pipelines for high-throughput analysis of digital pathology images. You will refine methodologies for image analysis, processing, visualization, and storage. You will strive to maximize efficiency, quality, reliability and user satisfaction. At the Scientist II level, you will propose, scope-out, and oversee projects from inception to completion. Your technical expertise will lead to development of new modules and improvements to existing modules without the need for much direct oversight.

Key Job Elements

Research and Development

• Investigate and compare available algorithms, models, frameworks, and methods to be implemented by the team.
• Remain current with best practices and emerging methods.
• Make recommendations for model and pipeline revisions and improvements.
• Lead efforts in model annotation, training, deployment, and integration to production.

Production Support

• Investigate, identify, and resolve analysis and pipeline production issues.
• Lead discussions on current and future Clinical AI modules, making recommendations and providing insights for improvements and development.
• Support pathology staff and software development teams in automation efforts.

Data Maintenance

• Treat sensitive data with a high level of integrity and ethics.
• Expand on and triage internal digital pathology annotation sets to maintain high-quality AI models.

Validation

• Develop procedures for testing and validation of new or updated Clinical AI modules and pipelines.
• Document and maintain data used for testing and validation.
• Write validation documentation for AI modules and pipelines.

Knowledge/Experience

• B.S., M.S., or Ph.D. from an accredited institution in Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, Computer Science, Applied Math/Engineering or related fields.
• 3+ years of research or work experience in a related scientific discipline (computer vision, machine learning, or deep learning).
• Strong hands-on skills in coding with image data for annotation, classification, segmentation, and/or object recognition.
• High level of technical expertise in relevant programming languages (Python) and with deep learning libraries (pytorch, tensorflow).
• Deep understanding of digital pathology and pathology-related images and concepts (different stains as well as their purpose; immunology and tissue structures).
• Experience in working on AI projects from inception to completion in a work or research setting.
• Must enjoy working in a multi-disciplinary and collaborative environment.
• Ability to troubleshoot complex problems both individually and as part of a team.
• Excellent oral and written skills with the ability to communicate in an open, transparent, timely and consistent manner.
• Experience in team software development and integration projects is required.
