The Director, Technical Development, is a senior leader responsible for architecting and executing a forward-looking, enterprise-wide technical capability strategy that strengthens functional excellence across Global Operations. This role sets the vision, establishes strategic priorities, and drives the evolution of technical competencies essential for achieving operational excellence in a highly regulated manufacturing environment. Serving as the principal steward of global technical learning, the Director leads the design, deployment, and governance of high-impact technical development programs-ranging from foundational skills to advanced technical leadership capabilities. This includes ownership of the Training Compliance function for the Quality Management System (QMS) across all Global Operations, RAQACA, Distribution, CE, and SRO, ensuring alignment with regulatory requirements and organizational goals. By collaborating closely with senior leaders, functional experts, and talent management teams, this role ensures technical development initiatives are integrated into business strategies, delivering measurable improvements in capability, compliance, and performance. This is a remote position. Key Responsibilities: Strategic Leadership
- Define, lead, and continuously refine the global technical capability development strategy, ensuring alignment with organizational objectives and industry best practices.
- Drive the advancement of technical leadership skills among Global Operations leaders, enabling them to deliver exceptional performance in complex, regulated environments.
- Serve as a strategic advisor to senior leaders on technical capability-building priorities, workforce readiness, and long-term skills development planning.
Program Design & Delivery
- Oversee the end-to-end lifecycle of technical learning programs, from needs assessment and curriculum design to delivery, evaluation, and continuous improvement.
- Lead the development of internal technical academies and certification programs to establish consistent, globally recognized capability standards.
- Ensure all technical learning solutions are designed using modern instructional design principles, incorporating digital learning, simulation, and other innovative methodologies.
Governance & Compliance
- Responsible for the Training Quality Compliance Management System for Global Operations, RAQACA, Distribution, CE, and SRO, ensuring full audit readiness and alignment with applicable regulations.
- Establish governance processes, documentation standards, and performance metrics to monitor the effectiveness and impact of technical training initiatives.
- Partner with Quality, Regulatory, and Operational leaders to embed training requirements into QMS processes and procedures.
Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement
- Partner with functional subject matter experts to ensure training content remains technically accurate, relevant, and aligned to evolving business needs.
- Build strong cross-functional relationships with Global Operations, Talent Management, and Quality leaders to integrate capability development into operational strategies.
- Identify, evaluate, and manage external partners and vendors to enhance technical training delivery.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree
- 8-10 years of progressive leadership experience, including at least 5 years in HR, Quality, Talent Management, or technical training within manufacturing.
- 3-5 years of experience leading enterprise-wide technical training initiatives in regulated industries (medical device, pharmaceuticals, or advanced manufacturing).

- Master's degree
- Lead Quality Systems Auditor certification

- Proven track record in designing and implementing large-scale technical capability-building strategies in regulated industries.
- Expertise in adult learning theory, instructional design, and e-learning development for technical audiences.
- Strong understanding of Quality Management Systems in a manufacturing environment.
- Demonstrated ability to influence and partner with senior executives and subject matter experts.
- Advanced facilitation skills and ability to deliver impactful, instructor-led technical training.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and experience with learning management systems (LMS).

The actual compensation may vary based on geographic location, work experience, education, and skill level. The salary range is CONMED's good faith belief at the time of this posting.
