Position Summary:



The Cardozo School of Law Registrar provides overall leadership and management of all aspects of student registration and recordkeeping, ensuring the integrity and confidentiality of student and institutional records, compliance with all relevant state and federal laws and regulations, and reporting to relevant institutional stakeholders and state bars. The Registrar works closely with the Vice Dean, Asst. The Dean of Academic Affairs and the Dean of Students to implement academic planning and policy and work collaboratively with the University Registrar and administration.



Position Responsibilities:



Records



  • Establishes and administers processes and procedures for student records management, archiving, and following the University records retention policy, in collaboration with the University Registrar and in compliance with all relevant regulations, policies, and standards for the maintenance, handling, and disposition of student and institutional records.
  • Has a firm understanding of FERPA and ensures that all University constituencies and stakeholders abide by its regulations.
  • Oversees all Registrar services for students and faculty, including transcript processing, grade processing, transfer credit evaluation, scheduling and registration, degree conferral, and making certifications to relevant state bars for students seeking admission.
  • Manages compilation, recording, verification, and dissemination of all data related to student enrollment, curriculum, academic progress, grades, and bar pass rates to relevant constituencies within the law school (e.g. Vice Dean, Office of Student Services, Office of Student Finance), state and federal accreditation agencies, including the ABA, and state bars.


Registration



  • Collaborates with the Vice Dean and Asst. Dean of Academic Affairs to establish and disseminate the academic calendar, create and update all registration materials, and ensure that all relevant IT systems (e.g., Banner, 25Live) reflect the calendar and schedule.
  • Establishes schedule and timeline for student registration for fall, winter, spring, and summer semesters, manages online student registration process, including periodic student communication, deadline adherence, and enrollment in requested classes via Cardozo's lottery registration system.
  • Acts as a liaison to other institution partners to facilitate cross-listing and registration of jointly offered courses.
  • Office of the Registrar management.
  • Supervises office personnel. This will include allocating work, training, promoting, enforcing internal procedures and controls, and evaluating performance.
  • Implements technological improvements and updates, designs, and optimizes Registrar's office functions.


Other



  • Participates in the development of University policies and procedures regarding student records and registration.
  • Works collaboratively with the Office of the Registrar managers across all YU Schools.
  • Responsible for the leadership of IT projects for the benefit of Cardozo and shared leadership of IT projects shared with other YU Schools in conjunction with the University Registrar and Associate Registrar for Systems.
  • Engages in professional development opportunities as a representative of YU, including keeping up to date with federal and state educational policy requirements regarding enrollment and recordkeeping.



Experience & Educational Background:



Minimum requirements:



  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Master's degree or JD strongly preferred.
  • Candidates should possess at least 5 years of experience in a college or university administration setting, with a preference in a Registrar's Office.
  • Experience in academic records management, curriculum administration, and student services preferred.
  • Knowledge of FERPA and other relevant federal and state laws is preferred.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, strong attention to detail to ensure accuracy, strong analytic and problem-solving skills, ability to multitask, effectively prioritize work, and adjust to changing workloads and deadlines.
  • Skill in examining and re-engineering operations and procedures, formulating policy, and developing and implementing new strategies and procedures.
  • Ability to effectively allocate work and manage personnel and to foster a cooperative work environment, including employee development and performance management skills.
  • Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Excel and Word required; skill in the use of computerized student information systems, such as Banner, APS Grading, SeatGen, and 25Live, and the ability to use reporting software, strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of law school academic and graduation requirements and eligibility for bar admissions preferred.


Scope of responsibility:



  • Reports to the Vice Dean of the law school and the University Registrar.
  • Supervises all full- and part-time staff in the office.



Salary Range:



$100,000 - $115,000
