The Network Engineer will design, Implement and maintain a robust data / broadband network. These networks will include management, voice, data and signaling networks. Performs job duties consistent within safety, legal, and regulatory requirements; company standards, culture and business practices. Acts with the highest level of business and personal ethical standards in all aspects of job performance.

Responsibilities

  • Develop detailed network and POP designs, optimizing existing network designs; documenting standards and training other team members.
  • Project management; Writing method of procedure documents.
  • Monitoring and Support of current network; Provide Tier IV tech support to Network Operations Center and other engineering teams; On-call support.
  • Design, implement and manage engineering on multiple network element systems: Packet-mode/soft switches; Data/IP systems including Cisco/Juniper routers and switches, TDM and Ethernet based transport systems; and broadband access network elements (Metro-Ethernet, DSL, FTTH, DIA, etc.)
  • Manage network capacity.
  • Manage hardware inventory (production and spares).
  • Manage IPv4/IPv6 inventories.
  • Interact with other departments/functions in identification and resolution of network troubles as well as assisting in setting standards and policies to avoid future problems; Work in collaboration with Network Architecture, Access Network Engineering, OSP and CO Engineering, Sales Engineering, Technology Development, Planning, Information Technology, Network Operations and Local Operations personnel.
  • Meet Networking Engineering objectives and goals in relation to customer service objectives, service level agreements, and regulatory obligations.
  • Assist in supporting 7x24 hour manager on-call requirements.
  • Contributes to departmental activities and programs by accomplishing related tasks as needed.
  • Work with Vendors to knowledge share, expedite shipments and resolve network issues.
  • Travel for meetings/projects in office and Datacenter/Central Office environment (Overnights likely will be required).
Qualifications

  • In order to accomplish the essential duties of this position, the incumbent must have a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Telecommunications or Information Technology or related, equivalent experience.
  • CCNP Certification or equivalent experience.
  • Five (5) years Data/IP, switch, router and transport experience.
  • SQL Database experience.
  • Switch, Routing and Translations experience and demonstrated knowledge of MPLS, ISIS, MPBGP, L2VPN and L3VPN.
  • Superior knowledge, skills, and experience with Cisco IOS, IOS-XR, and IOS-XE.
  • Must have and display interpersonal, problem solving and conflict resolution skills, excellent verbal and written communication skills, and ability to perform in a rapidly changing environment.
  • Working knowledge of MS Word, Visio, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.

Salary

Pay range (commensurate with skills and experience): $91,244 - $138,299
