The opportunity

About Us:
At SNHU, we are committed to fostering sustainability and promoting environmental stewardship within our community. The Sustainable Communities Eco Rep will play a pivotal role in engaging students, faculty, and staff to create a more sustainable campus and living environment. This position provides the opportunity to develop leadership, program management, and collaboration skills while contributing to the overall sustainability efforts of the college.

Position Summary:
The Sustainable Communities Eco Rep will work closely with Residence Life, Student Government, and student clubs to develop, implement, and promote sustainability initiatives within the residence halls. This individual will encourage environmentally responsible behavior, create awareness around sustainability issues, and build a vibrant student-led community that supports sustainability efforts on campus.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Program Development and Implementation:
    • Develop, organize, and facilitate sustainability-focused programs and events in the residence halls, such as workshops, awareness campaigns, and eco-friendly challenges.
    • Create and distribute educational materials related to sustainability, including posters, flyers, and social media content.
    • Host events like recycling drives, energy conservation initiatives, and zero-waste workshops to engage students in sustainable living practices.
  • Collaboration with Student Government and Clubs:
    • Collaborate with the Student Government Association (SGA) and other student organizations to promote sustainability across campus.
    • Represent sustainability issues at meetings with student government and other groups, advocating for environmentally responsible policies and practices.
    • Support student clubs in organizing eco-friendly events and initiatives by providing resources, guidance, and promotional support.
  • Residence Hall Sustainability Initiatives:
    • Work with the Residence Life team to develop and promote sustainability initiatives specific to the residence halls, such as energy-saving challenges, waste reduction programs, and water conservation campaigns.
    • Educate residents on how to adopt sustainable practices in their daily lives, including reducing single-use plastics, conserving energy, and making sustainable food choices.
  • Community Engagement:
    • Foster a community of students committed to sustainability through regular communication, including newsletters, social media, and in-person meetings.
    • Serve as a resource for students looking to learn more about sustainability practices, green living, and environmental issues.
  • Tracking and Reporting:
    • Track participation and feedback from sustainability programs to assess effectiveness and make recommendations for future initiatives.
    • Help prepare reports and presentations for the Sustainability Office and Student Government on the progress and impact of sustainability initiatives.

Qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled at SNHU, preferably in an environmental studies, sustainability, or related program.
  • Strong passion for sustainability, environmental stewardship, and eco-friendly practices.
  • Previous involvement in sustainability initiatives or student organizations is a plus.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to engage with diverse student groups.
  • Organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Self-motivated, creative, and able to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Experience with social media platforms and digital content creation is preferred.

*****Each on campus student is expected to participate in large office initiatives including Good Stuff every Winter and Spring- week of December 25 and the last three weeks of April and first week of May, Arboretum After Dark in late October and other events as they arise.

Time Commitment:
This is a part-time position requiring approximately 10 hours per week. Flexible scheduling based on the academic calendar and programmatic needs.

Compensation

The hourly pay range for this position is $12.00 - $15.00. Actual offer will be based on skills, qualifications, experience and internal equity, in addition to relevant business considerations.
