Job Description
Americas Gold & Silver is seeking a strategic and experienced Senior Underground Engineer with a specialization in long-term planning to join our team at the Galena Complex in Wallace, Idaho. This role is crucial for developing and optimizing the life-of-mine (LOM) plans to ensure long-term success and sustainability of our operations. The Senior Underground Engineer will also be responsible for creating monthly and annual mine plans, conducting economic evaluations and leading studies for future growth projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain the monthly, annual, and life-of-mine plans.
- Lead monthly production meeting.
- Generate and optimize long-range underground mine designs, stope sequencing, and schedules.
- Lead new underground project studies to support operational growth and efficiency.
- Conduct economic evaluations and scenario analysis on mid- to long-term development and ore zones to continuously improve designs.
- Perform detailed cost modeling to inform decision-making and optimize the allocation of resources.
- Ensure that long-range plans seamlessly transition into mid- and short-range mine plans.
- Identify technical gaps and opportunities in future mining areas and develop the necessary work scopes and studies.
- Collaborate with geology, geotechnical, and other technical teams to ensure mine designs are practical and compliant with all relevant parameters.
- Mentor and guide junior engineers, fostering their technical and professional development.
Education and Experience
- Required: Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering or a related technical field.
- Required: A minimum of 7 years of experience in underground mining, with at least 3 years focused on mine planning.
- Preferred: Significant experience with underground drill and blast, long-hole stoping, and backfilling processes.
- A strong background in Life of Mine (LOM) planning, mine design, and project management is highly desirable.
Technological Requirements
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
- Competent user of mine planning software such as Deswik, Vulcan, or similar applications.
