Job Description

SIU Investigator roles assist with planning, organizing, and conducting investigations of suspicious claims and other matters. This role will also recommend disposition of suspicious claims/matters in a prompt and expeditious manner through the investigation, evaluation, adjustment, and negotiation of claim/lawsuit files for all lines of business including auto, homeowner, commercial, agribusiness, watercraft, motorcycle, recreational vehicle, SMG and business owner policies from all jurisdictions. This role also interacts with Operations Counsel/General Counsel and outside counsel in (i)representing the legal interests of the companies in dealings with first and third parties such as agents, suppliers, regulators and policyholders and (ii) providing legal support and guidance to managers and employees in connection with their duties for the companies. The Special Investigator role also works with State and Federal agencies including law enforcement, fire marshals, Department of Insurance, Prosecuting attorney's office and the Attorney General's office as well as the National Insurance Crime Bureau (NICB) and the Insurance Services Office, Inc (ISO).

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

* Handles higher complexity claim investigations with less assistance from management (minimal supervision) and higher reserve functions, compared to the Level I.

* Demonstrates increased independent investigative planning.

* Manages and prioritizes inventory effectively and efficiently.

* Ensures proper file management techniques are utilized to manage and control expenses.

* Reviews and researches evidence and documents to analyze overall fact pattern of claim.

* Prepares and coordinates assignments to obtain relevant evidence and information.

* Assists the line of business team with identifying, selecting and monitoring of vendors.

* Reviews and understands complex legal issues to present to manager, in-house counsel, defense counsel and SIU claims committee, as necessary.

* Identifies needs and make recommendations regarding revisions to programs and/or procedures.

* Works toward improving workflow or establishing a more efficient method to investigate claims.

* Works closely with Defense counsel regarding pre-suit procedures. Work closely with defense counsel throughout the litigation process once suit has been filed againt an insured or against the company.

* Testifies at depositions as requested, attending occassionally on the company's behalf, coordinate court reporter and defense counsel on local matters.

* Testifies in civil and criminal matters, attend mediations with great exposure.

QUALIFICATIONS:

* Bachelor's degree in a related field, or the equivalent years' experience.

* 2 years' experience handling suspicious insurance claims.

* Claims/law enforcement experience.
