Job Description: The HR Compliance Background Investigations Analyst will play a vital role in the background investigations process while also ensuring the firm's adherence to related employment laws, regulations, and internal compliance standards. In collaboration with the Background Investigations team, this role will serve as a subject matter resource for HR compliance in background related matters, provide guidance to stakeholders, and support sensitive background check reviews. This position requires a balance of technical knowledge, critical thinking skills, keen judgment, discretion, and strong collaboration skills. Key Responsibilities Background Investigations
- Coordinate and facilitate pre-employment background checks for prospective employees, as well as internal personnel for promotions, and client-specific engagements.
- Liaise with external background check vendors to ensure accurate, compliant, and timely processing of investigations.
- Review and interpret background check results, assessing candidate suitability against established organizational standards and criteria.
- Partner with Talent Acquisition, HR Business Partners, and legal as needed to address exceptions or escalations.
- Support the ongoing improvement of background investigation policies, processes, and vendor management.
Compliance Oversight
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of federal, state, local, and applicable global laws related to employment compliance as it applies to hiring and background investigations (e.g., Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA), Fair Chance Acts (FCA), GDPR for international considerations).
- Monitor evolving legislation and industry standards to anticipate impacts on HR compliance programs.
- Adhere to all applicable laws and regulations regarding pre-employment processes and decisions, especially as it relates to adverse action.
Training & Education
- Develop and deliver training materials and resources for HR teams, hiring managers, and other stakeholders on compliance obligations and background check processes.
- Act as a trusted advisor on compliance best practices to minimize organizational risk.
Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain complete and accurate compliance documentation and background check records.
- Prepare reports and dashboards on compliance activities, background check trends, audit findings, and metrics.
Communication
- Provide clear, timely communication to candidates, employees, and other key stakeholders regarding background check results and compliance requirements.
- Handle all sensitive information with the highest level of discretion and professionalism, and on a strict need-to-know basis.
Qualifications & Requirements Education & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Legal Studies, or related field.
- 3-5+ years of relevant HR compliance, background investigations, or related experience.
- Prior experience in professional services, consulting, or multinational organization preferred.
Specialized Knowledge
- Strong understanding of employment law, compliance frameworks, and regulatory requirements.
- Strong understanding and familiarity with FCRA, FCA, data privacy regulations, and global compliance standards as it relates to employment.
- Experience with HRIS systems, applicant tracking systems, and background screening tools.

Preferred/Additional Requirements
- Professional certification in HR compliance, employment law, or related field (e.g., SHRM-CP, PHR, Certified Compliance & Ethics Professional (CCEP)).
- Demonstrated ability to manage sensitive investigations or escalations with discretion.
- Global compliance experience (e.g., cross-border background checks and compliance).
- Strong data analysis and reporting skills (Power BI, Tableau, or advanced Excel).

The wage range for this role takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs. The disclosed range estimate has not been adjusted for the applicable geographic differential associated with the location at which the position may be filled. At Crowe, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range is $69,000.00 - $136,500.00 per year.
