Job Description
Role Overview
The Production Supervisor reports to the Plant Manager and is responsible for safety, quality, and manufacturing on 3rd shift. Responsibilities include supervising and training Production Coordinators and hourly operators, and supporting manufacturing of quality product to meet the customers needs. This position will have direct contact with the customer, making this person the face of the company on the off shift.
Your Role in Unpacking Possibilities
Leadership and Guidance:
Provide day-to-day direction, coaching, and counseling to Production Coordinators and operators to ensure adherence to production schedules, quality standards, and safety protocols. Exemplifies characteristics of leadership according to Amcor Way, strategically leading with optimism, proactive planning, engaging team members, supporting innovation, and a focus on developing direct reports. Supervises four Production Coordinators (currently reporting only to Site Manager) and Shift Maintenance, in coordination with Maintenance Manager. Serve as the primary point of contact for Production Coordinators and operators to assist with problem-solving, troubleshooting, and process management. Work closely with Production Coordinators and Site Manager to coordinate daily production activities and ensure smooth shift transitions and communication.
Process Monitoring and Documentation:
Continuously monitor production processes to ensure equipment is running efficiently and producing high-quality products. Maintain accurate documentation of production data, operator logs, and machine performance, and address any follow-up actions for unresolved issues. Perform regular checks on machines and equipment, adjusting as needed to optimize performance and minimize downtime. Collaborates with plant leadership and Production Coordinators to create and track CI initiatives.
Safety and Compliance:
Identify and correct any safety concerns, ensuring compliance with OSHA regulations, company safety policies, and safety standards. Follow GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices) and ensure that safety guidelines are followed.
Quality Assurance:
Ensure that all products meet customer and internal quality specifications by performing regular quality checks and reviewing processes for potential improvements. Follow up on corrective actions for quality issues and collaborate with the Quality Supervisor to resolve concerns promptly. Use data to identify trends in product quality and implement necessary process adjustments to maintain high standards.
Training and Development:
Identify training needs for operators and collaborate with coordinators and HR to ensure that all team members are fully trained on equipment, safety protocols, and production procedures. Track progress in the Levels Program and sign off on demonstrated competencies for operators as they develop their skills. Provide leadership, mentorship, and cross-training to new and existing team members to ensure they are proficient in their roles.
Employee Supervision:
Monitor employee behavior regarding safety practices, adherence to work instructions, housekeeping, 5S initiatives, and compliance with GMP. Provide input on employee performance, offer coaching and counseling when needed, and escalate issues to the Site Manager as appropriate. Coordinate daily staffing, including scheduling breaks, relief, and shift transitions, to ensure consistent production flow. Manages all aspects of production co-workers' timecards, vacation use, etc.
Operational Support:
Provide coverage and relief for operators as needed and assist with key tasks such as mold changes, preventive maintenance, and equipment troubleshooting. Support the maintenance team by ensuring equipment is properly maintained and scheduled for preventive maintenance to avoid unexpected breakdowns. Use computer systems like SAP and FMS to monitor production schedules, track machine performance, and adjust workflows as necessary.
Communication and Shift Turnover:
Facilitate effective communication during shift handovers to ensure all necessary information is passed on to the oncoming shift. Report production issues, safety concerns, and any unresolved challenges to the Site Manager, escalating critical issues promptly.
Technical Assistance and Program Development:
Collaborate with HR and management to revise and update the Levels Program, ensuring that training materials are current and effective for operators and technicians. Provide technical input to improve production processes and enhance the department's overall operational efficiency.
