Summary ICU: The ICU Unit Service Technician provides a broad range of care and services to ICU patients under the supervision of a licensed nurse, including but not to limited to, phlebotomy, blood glucose monitoring, completing EKGs, supporting procedures within their scope, patient transport, securing equipment and supplies, and responding to medical emergency situations utilizing Heartsaver CPR and AED skills. They will also perform a wide range of secretarial duties and perform 1:1 sitting when necessary. The Unit Service Technician of the ICU will also assure the practice of the Patient and Family Centered Care Model in an environment that exemplifies best practice. The Unit Services Tech provides direct and indirect care to patients to ensure efficient patient flow and high-quality patient care. Licenses and Credentials Basic Life Support [BLS] - Generic - HR Only required and Certified Nurse Aide [CNA] - State Specific Certification Board required or Emergency Medical Technician [EMT License] - Generic - HR Only required - ICU: * Staff adheres to all C.A.R.E. Standards * Basic clerical skills such as organizing paperwork, filing, answering telephones, paging * Performing technical skills (EKG, Accucheck, phlebotomy) * Ability to effectively speak, read and write using the English language * Ability to pass clinical competency, basic math and reading testing * Ability to perform basic math calculations and measurements, to measure height and weight, intake and output and calorie counts * Ability to accurately interpret and utilize basic medical terminology and abbreviations * Ability to enter and retrieve computerized information * Physical ability to push, transfer, and pull heavy loads throughout assigned shift * Physical ability to meet core job requirements in accordance with practice setting demands, for the patient populations regularly served * Effective communication and interpersonal skills to interact appropriately with nursing staff, patients, families/visitors, physicians, and other hospital staff * Organizational skills to set priorities and efficiently complete assigned work * Ability to manage stress related to patient care issues and changing hospital climate and personnel issues.
