Position Summary

The Environment of Care Compliance Documentation Specialist - Facilities ensures organizational compliance with regulatory standards related to the physical environment in healthcare settings. This role focuses on The Joint Commission's Environment of Care, Life Safety, and Emergency Management standards, as well as CMS Conditions of Participation. Responsibilities include conducting compliance audits, maintaining documentation of waivers and deficiencies, updating life safety drawings, and supporting enterprise-wide safety and regulatory initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Tracks and ensures ongoing compliance with The Joint Commission's Environment of Care, Life Safety, and Emergency Management Standards, as well as CMS Conditions of Participation related to the physical environment.

  • Performs detailed audits across the organization to assess adherence to federal, state, and local regulations, and identifies areas of non-compliance.

  • Maintains accurate records of approved life safety waivers, equivalencies, and deficiencies; ensures documentation is complete, current, and audit-ready.

  • Inputs audit findings, waivers, and corrective actions into compliance tracking systems and database management tools to support enterprise-wide visibility and reporting.

  • Ensures Life Safety Building Feature Drawings are accurate and updated to reflect current conditions for both new renovations and existing infrastructure.

  • Leads or supports Environment of Care compliance efforts across the enterprise, contributing to improvement initiatives and safety culture development.

  • Works with facilities staff, project managers, and compliance teams to address deficiencies and ensure consistent application of regulatory standards.

  • Proficiency with database management, computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS), word processing, and spreadsheets.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in healthcare-related compliance focusing on Environment of Care, Life Safety, Emergency Management, or a closely related field.

Pay and Benefit Expectations

We provide a comprehensive benefits package, including competitive salary, medical, dental and retirement benefits and paid time off. As required by various pay transparency laws, we share a competitive range of compensation for candidates hired into each position. The pay scale is $22.12 - $31.82 USD. However, pay is influenced by factors specific to applicants, including but not limited to: skill set, level of experience, and certification(s) and/or education. If this position is associated with a union contract, pay will be reflective of the appropriate step on the pay scale to which the applicant's years of experience align.
